Review: e.l.f. HD Blush

Today I'm reviewing the e.l.f. HD Blushes ($3 each). I have 3 shades so I'll be as brief as possible. I wanted to buy all of them but most were sold out at the time. I was able to get: Headliner, Superstar, and Diva. Also, these aren't available on the UK website yet :(
These seem to be attempted dupes for the Make Up For Ever HD Blushes. The packaging is almost the same and they are both called HD Blush. I don't own a MUFE HD Blush but I have used them twice before, so I will compare them.
Left to right: Diva, Headliner, Superstar

PACKAGING
For me it's the biggest negative. The packaging is a hassle. It's cute but not practical. I know it needs to be packaged like this because it's so watery, but it makes me not reach for them often. The pump will always dispense more than you need so you waste product each time. Also, you have to either take some on your fingers and apply it to your face or spread it on the back of your hand then dab your brush in so it goes evenly. This adds more steps and mess. When cream blushes are packaged in pots or compacts, I just dab my brush in and apply.

PIGMENTATION
Just like most cream blushes, they are very pigmented. If you're not used to cream products, it will 1 or 2 applications to get used to it. You need the tiniest amount on your brush. One little drop can cover the entire back of your hand. Be especially cautious with bright colors like Diva.

FORMULA
I found them easy enough to blend, but they took a bit more effort than my other cream blushes. I always use a stippling brush for creams. The formula is good and lasts a long time on the cheeks. It looks really nice and natural. The blushes have tiny shimmers particles but they disappear once you but them on your face.
Superstar on my cheeks and lips

e.l.f. HD Blush vs. MUFE HD Blush
  • MUFE has a thicker silicone texture, e.l.f. is more watery
  • The thinner formula of the e.l.f. blushes causes them to be slightly less opaque than the MUFE
  • Still, both are very pigmented
  • Both are easy to blend and have a good formula
  • MUFE diffuses the look pores a little since it's more silicone-y
  • The MUFE pump is better and controls the amount of product dispensed
  • MUFE has a bigger color selection but e.l.f. was only released this year
  • e.l.f. is very affordable and MUFE is very expensive ($3 vs. $26 each)

I don't think they're dupes, the MUFE ones have a more of a silicone feel, which for me is a good thing. I feel like silicone diffuses the look of pores and makes products long lasting. They are also easier to blend. However, the e.l.f. blushes are good and much more inexpensive. You could buy 8 e.l.f. blushes for the price of 1 MUFE blush!! Actually, since e.l.f. has half-off promo codes so often, you could buy 16 for the price of 1 MUFE!  (That's crazy!) This means the e.l.f. HD Blushes are great alternatives.
For that reason, I would always pick the e.l.f. over the MUFE. I give them an A-!

Hope this was helpful! I know a lot of e.l.f. products are very hit and miss. I'd like to try more from the brand so let me know if you've tried any e.l.f. products before. Also, there is about a week left until my Urban Decay giveaway ends. You can enter here.

  3. Superstar looks amazing on you, very flattering and natural. I've never tried cream blushes because my T-zone is really oily and I'm affraid they wouldn't last long on my face : /
Still, for that price anyone could give this a try. Thanks for sharing xx

  4. The colours of these look really bright but just so gorgeous once they're blended. Superstar looks great on you, Headliner looks like my sort of everyday shade but I'd love to brave Diva as (if styled properly) it could look gorrrgeous xx

  19. The colours look beautiful and that shade looks lovely on your face but the packaging seems so annoying. I would maybe pick one of these up though because it's hard to find nice vibrant shades in cheaper brands.
