Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in "Rosary"
In an attempt to try out brands I had never tried before, I bought two products from the Kat Von D line which is sold at Sephora. An eyeshadow quad (which I will review later) and a lipstick. Rosary is a gorgeous vampy color. It's a little complex. It looks brown on the tube but it's a maroon/deep red/wine. On Sephora's website it's described as a dark burgundy red.
Pigmentation
The color is quite dark and pigmented. However, since it's not 100% opaque you can build it up to achieve different intensities and looks.
Formula
The texture is dry and it tugs on the lips if you apply it straight from the tube. It's quite strange because it seems like the bullet is stiff and that's why it tugs. Yet it's not drying at all! My lips are left in the same condition as they were before applying it. And it doesn't accentuate flakiness. On the contrary! It disguises lip imperfections because the formula is thick. It applies easily and evenly with a lip brush.
Longevity
This lipstick lasted a ton of hours on me. I was very impressed with the longevity but once 5 or 6 hours had passed it started to fade in a very unflattering patchy way. So make sure you take it with you to touch up.
Packaging
The packaging is sturdy and good quality. It has the color on the bottom which makes it easy to identify and store. The cap is rubberized and has really pretty floral tattoo inspired designs.
Bottom Line: My first impression was "Omg, no! Too dry" but after wearing it on numerous occasions, I totally fell in love with it. It's strange because lipsticks should have some creaminess to them, even mattes, or else they will make your lips look terrible. But Rosary just works and looks amazing on!
The color is beautiful and if you find it too uncomfortable to apply straight from the tube, you can use a lip brush which is what I do. There's room for improvement but it's so pretty and wears so well that it has become one of my favorite lipsticks.

Wow, in the bullet I wasn't impressed, but on this colour is beautiful! The formulation sounds a little odd, but if its doesn't dry the lips then that's a damn good thing in my book. :)

Yes, it's really odd but it works on the lips so I'm happy with it! xx
DeleteThis color is amazing !! The formulation sounds a little interesting, but if it's a little try using a lip balm under neath it might help with the tugging.

It's so pigmented and looks lovely on you. I have two KVD lipsticks and they do have that dry texture to it. I wished it was just a tad creamier.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colour. Perfect for wintery days.
