Revlon Just Bitten Kissable vs. Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint

When the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains came out everyone said they were dupes for the Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tints and the Clinique Chubby Sticks.  Sadly, I don't own any Chubby Sticks so I can only compare Tarte and Revlon. These products are almost identical.  They're both twist-up balm stains with overly long names :)
I own only 1 Tarte lip tint because they're pretty expensive.  I have 3 Revlon stains but I'm going to be comparing the a red color from each brand. Here are my thoughts on both products:
  • The Revlon formula is a little thicker and waxier.  It's not drying, but certainly not hydrating.  I disagree with the balm labeling.
  • The Tarte formula is thin (like an actual lip balm).  It's moisturizing and can actually serve as a balm for me.
  • Both formulas are sheer but can be built up to get many looks.
  • Both formulas have a peppermint oil and feel really nice on the lips
  • Tarte is more expensive ($24).  Revlon is $9-7 (depending on where you buy it)
  • Both leave a gorgeous stain after the shine is gone.
  • Both have a really pretty color selection.

Which one do I like better?
Tarte LipSurgence but only by a little.
Why?
The Just Bitten pencils are very nice products, but they don't treat the lips.  The Tarte pencil improves the condition of my lips (like an actual balm).
Which one would I actually repurchase?
The Revlon Just Bitten pencils because of the price difference.  I can get about 4 Revlon pencils (with drugstore promotions and discounts) for the price of 1 LipSurgence!!  Plus, I can just add a lip balm underneath if I wanted to treat my lips.
Bottom Line:  If you don't mind spending more money, I recommend Tarte because the formula is hydrating and the ingredients are nicer (jojoba oil, vitamin C & E, etc.)  They also have a bigger color selection and diverse finishes (shiny, matte, shimmery).  Honestly though, they are almost the same.  They both feel very comfortable on the lips.  I totally consider them dupes.  I won't be buying the Tarte ones again because they are so expensive.

  3. This is such an amazing post! Went into great detail and really helped me! I love the Revlon Just Bitten stains, so since you think the Tarte ones are even better, I'd love to try just one and I really love how the one you have looks - such a nice color!

  4. Thanks for going into detail about both! I have a Revlon one in Charm and I regret buying it, because it doesn't suit my skin tone at all :P Romantic looks really pretty, though!

  5. Great review coco :) I have the revlon balm stains and clinique chubby sticks. The chubby sticks don't stain and are sheerer (more like a tinted lip balm). I think the Tarte comparison is more appropriate :)

    1. Thanks for letting me know! I have been on the verge of buying the Clinique many times, but they're also pricey for what they are. Although, they recently released an "intense" line that is supposed to be more pigmented. xxxx

  6. The Tarte color is definitely prettier! I just don't know about 25 bucks for a balm type of product. I'd rather dish out that money on their blushes.

    1. I know, they're too expensive for a tinted lip balm. It was an impulsive buy out of curiosity. Also, the Revlon pencils weren't available back then when I bought it. xx

  7. This is a great comparison! However, I don't think I'll be buying any. I have a severe bias against these pencil-style lip products.

  14. I'm really loving the color of Lust on your lips but I agree with you because of the price and how similar they are, I would totally go with Revlon.

    1. Yeah, for me it's one of those "too similar, not worth it" things so Revlon all the way it is xx

  15. Head-to-head comparisons are always super helpful; thanks so much for the clear and contrasting reviews! It's nice to hear that the Revlon option is almost as nice- at such a great price it's hard not to get a few of them :)

  18. I think I'm in love with both! Hahah! Though I do like how Tarte treats the lips as you say and also it doesnt settle into the fine lines of the lips! Thanks for such a helpful comparison! :)

  19. Revlon has a new one coming out but truth be told, I'm more of a lipstick girl. I believe in color, and I just love the ritual of applying lipstick. I may reach for one of these at some point though as a present for someone! Thanks so much!
