I don't know if any of you share this feeling, but I freak out at the thought of running out of my favorite foundations. I guess it's because foundations are expensive and I hate the thought of having to repurchase. Anyways, for that reason I have been looking into more affordable alternatives. I picked up L'Oreal True Match Lumi (or Lumi Magique in the UK) just because the bottle was pretty. I had also seen it get generally good reviews online. So, today I'll be sharing my thoughts on it.
Packaging
This is one of the fanciest bottles I've seen at the drugstore. It has a glass bottle and a high-quality pump (always a plus). The only downside is that the cap is made of cheap plastic that scratches really easily. It also came with one of those pesky "New" stickers that left a residue on it.
Coverage
I would say this gives light-medium coverage. I got medium coverage by building it up to 2 layers. I didn't dare add a 3rd one because I knew it would start to look cakey.
Color Match
As you know, drugstore foundations are hard to match because you can't try them in the store. I got the color W4 Natural Beige. It runs a little orange which is why I think a shade lighter would be more suitable for me. I usually wear an NC30 in MAC.
Finish
The finish of this foundation is very pretty. It's a satin/luminous finish. I wouldn't call it dewy because it certainly isn't as dewy as MAC's Face and Body or Neutrogena's Healthy Skin. I really loved the finish, but it doesn't sink into the skin well. It sits on top a little bit which means it doesn't look as natural up close.
Longevity
I was really loving this foundation until I wore it out a few times. It doesn't last very long. It looks great freshly applied, but by the 3rd hour it's already fading. It doesn't really set either, which means it'll come right off if you touch your face. The longevity improves when set with powder, but I'm still not crazy about my foundation disappearing midway through the day.
Overview
Pros: Blends easily, gives the skin a gorgeous luminous effect, has great packaging
Cons: Fades quickly, sits on top of the skin (doesn't look too natural up close)
It's an okay foundation, but it needs to improve its staying power. I'm disappointed because I really loved it at first. I will continue to use it but I won't repurchase it. The next foundation I want to try is Rimmel's Wake Me Up. Please tell me if you've tried it or if you have any recommendations. For reference, my skin type is normal.

it looks georgeous on face.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that it doesn't last very long, that's the one thing I look for in foundations! I really like Rimmel Wake Me Up so hopefully you will too x
ReplyDeleteI hope I like it, I think I will xxx
DeleteActually.. this looks better than MAC face and body. Your before picture looks pretty good though XD What's the texture like though? As in, is the liquid runny? Thick? Thank you! xx
ReplyDeleteHaha, it looks better because it has more coverage than Face & Body. True Match Lumi is the standard liquid consistency. It doesn't run all over the back of your hand like Face and Body xxx
DeleteI actually really liked this foundation :) you are so pretty without, i am so jealous! x

Glad you like True Match Lumi. Thank you so much!! xx
DeleteSo lovely, I find loreal has amazing foundations, I wish they brought in more shades into singapore! I think it looks great on you, enough coverage and very smooth and blended! Thanks for reviewing!
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad that it doesn't wear long, I mean that's kind of like the most important thing about a foundation... well, one of the three main important things LOL Thanks for the review Coco, I think I want to try the Maybelline Fit Me first ^^ xx
ReplyDeleteP.S. You are so so beautiful without makeup!!! I'm so jelly haha if only my skin looked that nice without foundation... ♥ xx
I agree! Longevity is so important because I want the foundation to last well on its own. I don't like using face primers because it adds another step to my routine and it makes my face feel heavier.
DeleteThank youuu!' xx
Your complexion looks so beautiful with this foundation on, it looks like the most perfect colour match :) I tried it, but their lightest was just too dark for me xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat thanks for this review as I was thinking of buying this but the fact it wears off quickly has put me off even though it looks amazing on you x

Thank you, lovely xx
DeleteThis looks great and flawless on your face :)

It looks like it has the most beautiful finish, such a shame it doesn't last very long on the skin! Great review lovely, I would love to hear your thoughts on the Wake Me Up foundation from Rimmel if you end up trying it.

Wowza, it has a gorgeous finish! I love the L'Oreal True Match Lumi concealer/corrector and it works amazingly for me so I wanted to see how this would be. It looks great on your skin, too bad it doesn't last very long :/
ReplyDeleteThe Mod Mermaid
I know it's in the same family, but if you haven't tried Loreal True Match you must! It's more medium/fuller coverage and always looks great. With a primer it lasts for hours. Based on what you said above, you would probably go down to the shade N3 (I use this shade too) I suggest the neutral (N) because it reduces some of that orangey tint and looks a bit more natural. I use W3 when I am tan. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for recommending shades!! :) x
DeleteIt's a massive shame that it doesn't last long on the skin because the satin finish is absolutely beautiful! I always worry about finishing foundations too, partly because they're expensive and partly because if I really like it I worry that by the time I've finished it the company may have discontinued my shade/the line! xx
ReplyDeleteThat would be terrible. The recently discontinued Chanel foundation was one I had always wanted to try :( Now I can't x
DeleteYou have amazing skin without foundation girl! Shame it doesn't last longer. I generally find that's the case with most drugstore foundations I've tried, that they just don't last long enough on me. I also want to try Wake me Up, it gets such great reviews. xx
ReplyDeleteOoo this looks great on you! Funny, I just finished preparing this review as well...lol

Hahaha, I'll check it out :)
DeleteI llike how it looks but everytime I've meant to buy it, I couldn't find a suitable shade for me. Rimmel just launched Wake Me Up in Canada this week, so I think I'll give that a go instead! lovely review x
ReplyDeletethanks for such a great review!

It is too bad it doesn't have staying power. Thats what a foundation is all about right? I want to try the Magic Lumi base. Just to see what kind of glow it gives. For drugstore foundation, you should try Revlon's ColorStay Whipped Creme. It actually gets better as the day goes on :)and it isn't as heavy as the original ColorStay
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recommendation :)
DeleteMost of the reviews I read about this foundation was good but I'm glad you mentioned that it doesn't last. A long wear foundation is a must in my routine. The only drugstore foundation that I tried and like is the Revlon Colorstay.
ReplyDeleteOoh, it looks nice - that really is a pretty fancy bottle for drugstore make-up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review.

I'm so happy I saw this, I am on a foundation hunt right now! Tomorrow at the drug store and Sephora might kill me! This helps a lot!
ReplyDeleteThanks! New follower!!

Looks so pretty on you but it sucks it's not a long wearing foundation. I have very oily skin and almost all foundations fade away off my face :( have you tried revlon nearly naked? Xx
ReplyDeleteNot yet, but if I see it get good reviews I might xx
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't already, you need to get Bourjois Healthy Mix. It is such a fantastic foundation, medium coverage and it looks so freaking natural on your skin. It's m HG foundation, although I am coming around to Nars Sheer Glow too!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great on you!!
ReplyDeleteI tried this but the shade wasn't good so it looked bad. I might try and find another shade.
This looks great on you! I definitely prefer a foundation with light to medium coverage as you don't look too caked in makeup x

It does look great on you, but I know how it looks up close is a whole different story! I'm glad I skipped this one seeing as I'm oily and it would probably look like a drippy mess on me at the end of the day, haha xx
