Hello, loves! Today I have some MAC Eyeshadow ($15 each) swatches and mini reviews for you. Hopefully this will help if you're on the market for some colorful eyeshadows. Now, I love MAC neutrals, but I think their vibrant eyeshadows leave a bit to be desired. Rule is the best of the bunch and Vibrant Grape is the worst.
Rule: is a muted matte orange. It's soft and pigmented. It's a great eyeshadow but if you're looking for a really vibrant orange, this isn't it.
Vibrant Grape: is a matte purple. It's dry, stiff, patchy, and poorly pigmented. The swatch above is built up (about 3 layers). I'm not too impressed with this one.
Aqua: is a light matte pastel blue. It's a little dry, but not nearly as much as Vibrant Grape. It's still easy to work with and quite pigmented.
Overall, I really like Rule, I think Aqua is a nice addition to my collection, and I regret getting Vibrant Grape. I don't think I'll be looking at MAC when I'm on the hunt for a matte red or yellow eyeshadow. Although I have swatched Chrome Yellow at the MAC Store and it seemed quite impressive. I'd love it if any bright eyeshadow lovers could tell me what their favorite brands are. Thank you for reading and have a lovely weekend!

ReplyDeleteI have Aqua but I've honestly never used it haha. That's such a shame about Vibrant Grape. There's a beautiful and pigmented bright purple in the Sleek Original Palette.

I wish I could be more adventurous with my eye shadows as well - I'm pretty afraid to use bright and bold colors together! Aqua is really pretty though.
ReplyDeleteThese look INTENSE! Great for spring coming up and I can't wait to see how you use Rule. Such a shame about Vibrant Grape. I love Urban Decay for their bright shadows. I know the majority of them are overly sparkly, but in the Vice Palette they had some amazing colors!
ReplyDeleteI have the original Coastal Scents 88 palette and it's AMAZING for crazy shades with a matte finish! It's worth checking out, for sure.
These colours are cute especially Rule. I haven't actually heard of any of these before. I tend to stick to neutrals and pinks but I need to branch out a bit xx

I can picture 'rule' really suiting your skin tone! I love the look of aqua, it really reminds me of the trend where catwalk models would have really bright eyeshadow on, done really messily as if it was paint or something? no? oh

You should try Sugarpill. I don't have them, but being a brights-lover, I really want them after thorough reading!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of MAC's matte formula because they're typically dry and stiff. Their Matte2 formula is super smooth and buttery though. For bright, pigmented, and buttery shadows, your best bet is either Inglot or Sugarpill. Urban Decay's newly formulated bright shadows are really incredible too.

DeleteI feel like MAC makes a better frost than mattes. I'm definitely sticking to MUFE for my matte needs. Heck, Illamsqua's mattes look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely. There are nice mattes (mostly the neutrals) but it isn't MAC's strong point xx
DeleteAs someone that has tried Chrome Yellow, stay away from the yellows there, hah. You're better off getting one from Sugarpill. And it's cheaper than MAC.

I think I've mentioned Coastal Scents Hot Pots in a previous comment, I still recommend their eyeshadows. I have a couple of their mattes and they're great. Another amazing brand for colourful matte colours is Sleek, you should definitely try them, they are pigmented and long lasting even without a primer. Too bad Vibrant Grape isn't good, looks like such a fun colour : / xx
