Bare face (left), Pro Longwear (right)
Hi, beauties! I love doing foundation reviews because whenever I'm about to buy a new foundation I research it very thoroughly. Foundations are some of the most expensive makeup items so I think reviews are quite useful. I bought MAC Pro Longwear because I needed a foundation that wouldn't transfer since I'm constantly touching my face (I just can't help it!)
Texture
This foundation doesn't run when you put it on the back of your hand (like Face & Body) which means it's on the thicker side. However, I've worn this countless times and it doesn't look cakey. It only looked cakey once and that's because I applied too much.
Coverage
It has a medium coverage. On my "better" skin days I don't need to apply concealer over it. However, because it sets matte I don't recommend layering it. It doesn't build up well so if you want full coverage I recommend looking at something else.
Longevity
This is where this foundation blows me away. It lasts so long that I can't even tell you how long. I've worn it for 10 hours and it still looked the same as it did when I applied it. It has never failed me. It stays undisturbed until I decide to take my makeup off.
Transferring
Pro Longwear sets fantastically. Once it sets it won't transfer onto anything or anyone. I've even slept with it (terrible, I know) and it doesn't transfer onto sheets or pillows.
Important Info
- I really recommend always moisturizing before applying it. Since it's matte and long-wearing the moisturizer helps with blending.
- I recommend it for: oily skin, humid climates. I don't recommend it for: dry skin (since it sets completely it could grab onto dry patches)
- I never set this with powder because it doesn't need it.
- For reference, I wear the color NC30 and my skin type is normal.
- It has SPF 10 (slight white cast in photos)
- It sets quickly so I recommend working quickly and/or in small sections
I really love this foundation. The reason it isn't my go-to is that I don't need my foundation to last 10+ hours on a daily basis. If I'm just going to be out for 4 hours there's no need for me to wear Pro Longwear. It's really suitable for long days at work, university, etc. I hope this was useful!

Thanks for the review Coco ^^ Wish I could afford MAC : / You look lovely without makeup, by the way ♥ xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lau <3 xx
DeleteQue guapa eres! The foundation looks lovely on you. Great review :)
ReplyDeleteSam xx
Que bella! Thanks xx
DeleteI've always heard such bad things about MAC base products .. a lot of people say that they oxidise and are prone to breaking skin out! After reading this I think I may need to sample it for myself :)

I know! Especially Studio Fix, it has a terrible reputation. I've never broken out or had a reaction to makeup. I don't have sensitive skin so it could be that some MAC foundations have ingredients that irritate sensitive skin xx
DeleteGreat review! I find your blog so helpful with the honest reviews! xx
ReplyDeleteGreat review I love this foundation too, and your right it really does set matte!!

It sounds so good! Especially for the weather we have in Pakistan! Thanks for the review I think I'll be ordering this but I'm not sure what shade I should order since we don't have MAC where I live :( Could you help me with that maybe suggest which shade I should get? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure because I haven't seen you in person, but from your pictures I think you could go with an NC25. If you feel like you are very similar to me in terms of skin color then an NC30. xxx
DeleteThanks for the review. I'm currently on the hunt for the perfect wedding day foundation. This sounds great except for the SPF and how it appears in photos.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd really like NARS Sheer Glow for your wedding. It has a natural finish and no SPF so it looks very pretty in photos xx
DeleteThis is a great review and as I have dry skin, I now know to pass this one but thanks for the heads up! :) Love your blog so much xxx
ReplyDeleteReally descriptive review! Loved reading it. Too bad it won't work for my dry skin :(
ReplyDeleteYou look great without makeup. I've been meaning to retry this! The first shade sample I had was too dark.
ReplyDeleteI think the majority of people who wear makeup are guilty of sleeping in it at least once, ha! You look so pretty with and without makeup on :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks really nice and natural! I've been in the market for something a bit more long wearing so I'll have to look into it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a fantastic review Coco! I have such a habit of touching my face too, combining that with living in a humid climate is pretty much a giant pain haha! This sounds like it would be brilliant for hot summer days, I may try it at some point in the future :)
ReplyDeletex
It is! It stands up to hot and humid weather really well xx
Deletereally nice review. on my blog i did a post a few days ago about the mac studio fix fluid foundation! i love mac! :-) the pro longwear sounds also very interesting! =)

One of my favorite foundations ! I still prefer the Chanel mat Lumière and the estee Lauder double wear over this but it is a great foundation , and has a great lasting/Staying power !
ReplyDeletex Liyana
I bet I would love the Chanel. I've considered EL Double Wear but then decided against it because I always prefer lighter coverage xx
DeleteGreat review! This foundation looks very flawless!
ReplyDeleteI use studio fix powder foundation from Mac and i love it: it's very buildable, i can reach a great coverage without looking flat! Often i use it like a powder and it set my makeup in a very excellent way with a minimum coverage!
Their Studio Fix powder is actually my favorite all-time powder xx
DeleteThank you for the great review Coco!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an excellent foundation in your experience with it but I hear mixed reviews overall... I'll have to research it for myself (I'm definitely like you in that aspect haha)!

Yeah, foundation is very subjective. How much you like it will depend on your finish and coverage preference.
DeleteI have heard great things about this foundation an it sounds great, the only thing that turns me off is it not being buildable,I like to be able to do that but thankyou coco you have given me some food for thought I may still give it a go thanks for the great review :) p.s this foundation looks AH-MA-ZING on you.gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a fantastic foundation! I have oily skin with redness and blemishes, so long-wearing, moderate coverage foundations are always up my alley. Thanks for such a helpful review :)
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Revlon ColourStay foundation? I've been using it for years and wonder how it compares with ProLongwear. Thanks!

I've read that Pro Longwear and ColourStay are very comparable. I did try ColourStay years ago but it was like 4 shades too light for me and I never used it again. I think I need to pick up another color so I can compare the two. I'm terrible at picking foundations at the drugstore xx
DeleteYeah, the drugstore is a terrible place to try to match shades, that's for sure! Thanks for the advice that they're quite similar... I'd say that ColourStay is definitely worth checking out again. I'm a MAC NC20 and I wear the shade Buff, if that helps! :)
DeleteUff, before I even read the post I thought about writing 'I love MAC products but most of their foundations break me out,bla bla'
ReplyDeleteUntil I read that it doesn't transfer and that it's good for oily skin, what can be better?
I was thinking about getting Revlon Colorstay foundation for oily skin but now you put me in a place where I can't decide, even when mac is a lot more expensive than revlon.. aaahhh, Bad coco!
Hahaha, I want to try Colorstay again so I can compare the two. I haven't used Colorstay in years because the shade I picked didn't match me. xx
DeleteWonderful review and it looks lovely on you. I wish it would be foundation I could enjoy, but I have dry skin.
ReplyDeleteXOXO, Nicole @ proudproductjunkie.blogspot.com
Ok this is next on my list of foundation to try because a long-wearing foundation is a must for me. I can't stand foundations that disappear or start to look dull halfway through the day. I'm the type who whatever I put on my face in the morning is pretty much what I wear all day.
ReplyDeleteI hope it works well for you and your skin! It's a very reliable foundation xx
Deletebest review everrrrr!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, this looks gorgeous on your skin! It makes your complexion so radiant :)

You are so lucky your skin looks lovely without it too!

I have been meaning to try this for quite some time . Such great review will surely buy it next time when I at Mac counter :)
ReplyDeleteGreat review, I just bought this 2 weeks ago, and would have to say you are completely right! One of the negatives for me is the spf in it, i think their old pro long wear didn't have it. Do you like it better than mac face and body?
ReplyDeleteby the way great blog! i'm a new follower, just found you!
glossedbeauty.com
Hi, lovely! Your blog is beautiful! :)
DeleteWell, I do like it more than Face and Body but only because it sets and doesn't transfer. Face and Body has a dewy finish so it's not that suitable for the kind of weather I live in (tropical). They are both great foundations in my opinion. It depends on your needs. But yes I prefer Pro Longwear xx
Thank you :)
Deleteand thank you for this great review!
Thank you so much for this review, I'm debating on which MAC foundation to purchase!

You have gorgeous skin without the foundation, I am super jealous! Love the blog I will be back often!
ReplyDeleteHmm.. I'm sold!
ReplyDeleteOnce you mentioned the whole longetivity thing... you got me. I'm also like you in the sense that I really study a product before purchasing it, especially when it's something pricey like foundation. Very helpful review. Thank you. xxx
Great review- thank you! I've been looking for a good foundation that doesn't transfer, and will last a full work day. Am def going to be sampling this ASAP!
