L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream - Medium ($10.99)
I bought this little gem last Saturday and have been basically using it nonstop ever since. I'm so surprised by how much I like this product. I didn't research it thoroughly before purchasing it. I had no idea what to expect but ended up loving it. I won't be reviewing its "skin beautifying" properties because I haven't been using it that long. And to be honest I doubt it'll actually improve the condition of my skin seeing as it's not like a traditional BB Cream.
Texture
It's very watery and runny. It feels a little grainy at first (like sand mixed with water) because of the pigment beads. They "burst" as you blend it in and it feels like any regular liquid product after that.
Coverage
Very, very sheer. I was expecting that so I'm not bothered by it. It reduces general redness. Blemishes and dark circles still need concealing.
Finish
The initial application for this product is very misleading. It looks very dewy at first but sets to a satin/matte finish after a few minutes.
Color Match
Like I said, the initial application is misleading. The color changes as you work it in. My face looks very ashy/grey at first, then it turns really yellow, then it blends into my skin seamlessly. It only comes in four shades (Light, Fair, Medium, and Deep) but since it' so sheer, color matching is easy and forgiving.
Longevity
The lasting power is okay. Again, I wasn't expecting much because it's sheer and behaves like a tinted moisturizer.
Final Thoughts
I really love this product. It's exactly what I was looking for: something lightweight and sheer for "no make" days. I don't mind that it's not long-wearing because it doesn't claim to be. Plus, it's the kind of product I would only use to go to class or run errands.
(Woah, them under eye dark circles!)
Skip this if:
-You want something with SPF in it (although you can add a facial sun screen or primer under it)
-You need medium or full coverage
-You only like dewy finishes
-You were looking for something like a traditional BB Cream that actually treats and protects
Get this if:
-You want something lightweight
-You're looking for a tinted moisturizer
-You like sheer/light coverage

your skin looks amazing before!!, the product sounds good though! x
ReplyDeleteSo kind of you to say, thank you xx
DeleteIt really brightens up your face! I still need to find a BB cream that I actually like. Thankyou for your thoughts on this one.
ReplyDeleteYour skin already looks so good O.o I may check this out though! I would have preferred it if they had SPF in it :P Oh well! Thanks for the lovely review!! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amanda <3

I am pretty certain the Australian version has spf 12. Strange how they don't keep product consistent like that. I have this (but in the wrong shade) and agree with how comfortable it is to wear. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's silly, all of them should have (or not have) SPF. xx
DeleteLooks like such a nice product! I definitely prefer lightweight makeup vs. a heavy foundation and think this is a great option.
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't heard very great things about this "BB Cream" (I had to put it in quotes... I hate how America has just used that name to sell new products when they're anything but a traditional BB Cream, like you said) so it was nice to hear someone actually liking it!!
ReplyDeleteYou have such nice skin to begin with so it looks lovely on you... me however, well I definitely need fuller coverage haha <3

Yeah, the big let down with this is that it lacks the characteristics of a BB Cream. It doesn't preform as advertised, but I like it as a different type of product (a tinted moisturizer).
DeleteThank you :) xx
I almost picked this up the other day, but I passed. I am glad I did because I prefer my "BB Creams" with SPF and a Medium coverage! Very helpful post!

I actually really like the sound of this, as I find normal NBA to be a complete waste of time anyway and L'oreal have been doing some lovely skin products over the last year or so. You look glowing with it on.

I love this BB cream too! Like you said, it's not a traditional BB cream, but it's so unique that I still use it and really enjoy it! I'm actually wearing it right now! :)

Hi Coco,
ReplyDeleteYou are very beautiful! I love your eyes!
Your skins so nice! I was sort of contemplating getting this. I've been using the Skin79 Orange Plus BB Cream but that stuff is pretty expensive. I've been interested in trying out one of the western BB creams especially since Garnier (I think) just released an oil control version of their bbcream in America. I think its been out for awhile in Britain and Australia and possibly other places.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This BB cream seems really nice. I'm liking the tinted coverage on it. I was looking to pick up a new BB cream since the last one I have is almost empty. Hopefully it works for my combination skin type. ^_~
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a great product :) your skin looks really beautiful with it on!
ReplyDeleteyou have great skin! but i love the idea of the beads that burst as you rub it in, i feel like that could be great to wake your skin up on early mornings! thanks for this review!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great on you! I was just reading on Nouveau Cheap that there will be a line of CC creams and CC blushes as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the bursting colour beads, This really brightens up your skin x
ReplyDeleteThat BBcream looks really pretty on you, sheer and lightweight. I don't think you need medium/heavy coverage though, your skin already look great and healthy!!
