MAC Russian Red Lipstick Review

MAC Russian Red Lipstick ($15 / £14)
I was lucky enough to win this lovely lipstick from Selina's giveaway. It's one of MAC's most popular reds, yet it's something I never thought of picking up myself. I'm glad I own it because it's a high-quality reliable red. Although if you have an extensive lipstick collection, you probably already own something like this. Here are my thoughts on it:
Color
I think what makes Russian Red so universal is that it's a primary red. It doesn't lean too blue or too orange so it appeals to many. It's completely opaque in one layer.
Formula
Russian Red has a matte finish. Not completely matte (like NARS Dragon Girl) since it retains a bit of a creamy sheen.
Longevity
It wears well, but on special occasions I would definitely wear a lip liner underneath. 
Overall
Russian Red is a great red. It's flattering and not overly glossy, which makes it very wearable. I would say this is my third favorite red lipstick, NARS Dragon Girl and Mascate are still in the lead.

  2. A red lipstick is a must-have, even if you don't like lipsticks... like I don't LOL But I do own two, one bright (Maybelline Color Sensational in Red Revival) and one dark (NYX Round Lipstick in Hero) ^^
    This shade looks amazing on you and like you said, seems to work with a lot of skin undertones : ) xx

Russian Red has been on my radar for the longest time... the only thing that puts me off about it is that people seem to say that it tugs during application and is a bit dry :( It looks absolutely gorgeous on you though Coco and I think I'm going to have to take the plunge one of these days just for the sake of it haha.

  15. I don't own any Mac lipsticks (embarrassed). But this is going to be the first one I buy! I'm making a list of Mac products that I want- and this is at the top of the list. The color looks perfect.
