Hi, loves! I'm really excited about today's product because it was such a pleasant surprise. I wrote on my last haul that I bought this because I had been looking for a creamy black base for smoky eyes. I was thinking of getting NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean or MAC's Blackground Paint Pot. I bought Rimmel's Blackmail on a whim and it definitely satisfied all of my needs. I'm so surprised by this product because cream shadow pencils are usually a creasing mess. P.S. Another range of cream eyeshadow sticks that I really love from the drugstore are the Milani Shadow Eyez. A review is coming in the future!
Color
Blackmail is as black as any of my other black eyeliners. In the swatch picture I compared it to Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero and L'Oreal Extra Intense Eyeliner Pencil in Black. Once it's blended on the eyes, the intensity is diminished and it looks grey. That's fine with me because I intend to use it as a base not alone. Plus, I don't suggest "crayola"-ing on cream eyeshadows because they will crease.
Texture
Blackmail is very creamy. The texture is really nice and easy to work with. The only problem I encountered with this product is that it sometimes "skips" when being blended. I got some uneven patches that were lighter and some that were darker. I was able to apply two thin layers of Blackmail and didn't see any creasing.
Longevity
Using Blackmail as a base helped my eyeshadows stay on longer, made the colors deeper and richer, and reduced fallout. I wore theBalm's Jealous Jordana on top of Blackmail. Blackmail isn't labeled as an eyeliner but I still tried it out on my waterline and it worked perfectly.
Overall
I love this pencil! It's just what I was looking for to help amp up my smoky eyes. I only own one NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (Cottage Cheese) but so far I like the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow Stick much better! I found the Jumbo Eye Pencil to be oilier. I can't use more than one thin layer or it'll crease instantly. With the Rimmel Eyeshadow Stick I was able to get away with two layers and saw no creasing.
Pros:
-Affordable
-Creamy
-Doesn't crease easily
-Makes a great eyeshadow base
-Wears well on the waterline
Cons:
-Can look patchy if worn alone
-If you live in warm climate (like me) the tip of the pencil can get squashed easily because of how soft it is
- Doesn't dry to a matte finish (if you were looking for a cream-to-powder product)

I bought this recently, I can't agree more! It's so lovely and creamy :-)

DeleteLove the way you wore it as a base, and how it is a dupe for higher end products, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review Coco ^^ All the Scandal Eyes pencils looks really good. I have some of the NYX and the only ones that don't crease on me are Milk and Black Bean, but I agree that you have to use one thin layer, otherwise they can become a hot mess. Love the green smokey on the right, photo tutorial pretty-please? hehe xx
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'll try :) I love using Jealous Jordana xx
DeleteI used to wear the old Rimmel eyeshadow pencils (we`re talking like 13 years ago lol) and I loved them. So glad they have one in black!

It makes a huge difference on
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing, I really need to pick up these pencils in more colours! (I only have the nude one and didn't like it!)
ReplyDeleteI like these one better in terms of formula compared to the Rimmel kohl kajal. I agree with you, it's kinda hard to get an even application as eyeshadow in spite of how creamy it is.
ReplyDeletewow i haven't even heard of these! I definitely will be picking some of these up! thank you for the post :)
