Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 53 (£10.99)

I've always wanted to try the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation or Serum because it's a very hyped up product. The lovely Latasha was kind enough to send me a Healthy Mix Serum during our swap. I have the shade 53 which seems to suit me very, very well. I'm around an NC30 in MAC. The Healthy Mix Serum is a lot of people's favorite and I can see why. Here's an in depth review of the formula and product:
Color
A lot of warm-toned gals will be happy to hear that Bourjois's warm shades run quite yellow. This is great because it makes color matching easy. Some brands (MAC, I'm looking at you!) love to make their warm-toned shades a bit orange. This can look unnatural if you're predominantly yellow or not very tanned.
Texture
This is a gel foundation so the texture feels a bit different. It's like a thickened liquid which means it's best to use as little product as possible to avoid cakyness. I would say this has a medium coverage. It claims to be semi-matte but I find that it looks more like a satin finish on me. It's easy to blend and easy to work with. It looks really natural in person.
Formula
Healthy Mix Serum doesn't have SPF (yay!) which means it will photograph great. If you want SPF you can just add your own underneath. The lasting power is impressive considering it's a moisturizing-type foundation. It seems like it would work well with a lot of skin types because it's right in the middle (not very dewey and not completely matte). It smells floral/fruity though its scent is nowhere near as strong as Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua.
Overall
Dear Other Drugstore Brands, please take note of Bourjois's foundation packaging. It comes with a pump and clearly states the finish and coverage on the back of the bottle. Unless you thoroughly research the product first, drugstore foundation finishes/coverage are usually a surprise. Rant aside, I can definitely see how Healthy Mix Serum is a holy grail product for some. I adore this foundation and it met all my expectations. On a more subjective note, I wouldn't call it a favorite at this time because I live in a place with very high humidity. That means I usually go for more matte or long-wearing foundations.

  4. So glad you're loving this! I gave it a go last year and loved the texture, coverage, and scent, but unfortunately it was a bit too dewy for my skin type. But I can definietly appreciate the top-notch formula and good packaging! xo

  8. Totally know what you mean in terms of drugstore foundations not stating their finish, very annoying! I've always wanted to try this but I've bought so much foundation really I shouldn't buy another one!

  11. It looks like it gives a really nice coverage. I find it really hard to get a good colour for my skin in drugstores though, which is the only thing putting me off trying this one.

  14. I have this foundation too and love it! However, when I've had dry patches I have notice it cling a little even when applied sparingly but other than that it gives me a nice natural coverage without really making me look like I've got a base on. x

    1. For me it's medium coverage. It claims in the bottle to be light. I think the fragrance might have attributed to breaking you out. It's a nice scent but fragrance is totally unnecessary in makeup. I'd love to! I'll see if I can get it. I've only been able to try Bourjois products from swaps xx

  16. This looks lovely on you, I have only tried the non serum version which is a lot more dewy which I like so this probably wouldn't be for me. Great review xx

  17. Looks great on you, good color match! I can't wear it in summer (too hot and humid here) but I adore it for winter.
My only gripe with Bourjois is that we don't get thte lighter shade here in Spain and most times the lighter shade runs a bit too dark for me.

  19. Want! Looks amazing on the skin, almost like you're not wearing any makeup at all. I know Estée raves about this everytime she mentions it in a video and I can totally see why : ) Thanks for the review Coco! xx

  20. I've been thinking about getting this one for quite some time! I have very dry skin, so I'm always cautions when it comes to buying new foundations, but this one sounds like it could work for me!

  21. You have such great skin that there's hardly a difference between the no-makeup and the makeup look. You're so beautiful. =]

  22. I really want to try this one but it's a true pain to get it in the US, plus ASOS has it for like $20, which is a little bit too expensive. Thank you for the review! I really want to try it now... ha! xx

  24. It looks full coverage on you if I would only see the picture I would think you are wearing Healthy mix, not healthy mix serum.
