NARS And God Created The Woman Set ($59 / £40.50)

I know, I know... Another review of this palette! Sorry, but I simply had to share my thoughts on this one. I was stubbornly convinced that it was just another overhyped product. I first saw it on The Sunday Girl blog and immediately knew I wanted to get it. However, I started to get second thoughts after a while. I've always wanted to own NARS eyeshadows, but this palette is really expensive! It's $59 for six eyeshadows. It doesn't seem that bad considering it's almost $10 per eyeshadow (which is great for high-end eyeshadows) plus you get a Smudge Proof Primer and a brush... but the catch is you get very little product. You get 0.03 oz of each eyeshadow color. Regular NARS singles and duos come with 0.07 oz of eyeshadow. To put it in perspective: the Urban Decay Naked palette has 12 colors (twice as much eyeshadows!), you get more product at 0.05 oz each, it also includes a primer and a brush, and it's $9 cheaper. Anyways, I think I've made my point. :P Long story short, after swatching it at Sephora on three separate occasions, I caved in.
Formula
The quality of the eyeshadows does not disappoint. The palette is limited edition but it includes some permanent shades. The formula seems to be the same as the one for permanent products: smooth texture, great blendability, and insane color payoff. I fell in love with Coconut Grove, it's super rich and doesn't need any layering.
Color Selection
That's what I love the most about this palette. It includes some shimmery eyeshadows but for the most part they look matte. I feel like it's my ideal travel palette color and texture wise. The colors are a good mix of warm and cool neutrals. What keeps it from being a bland or repetitive neutral palette are colors like Galapagos (chocolate brown with gold shimmer) and Night Clubbing (black with gold shimmer). The shimmers are more noticeable in person.
Overall
If you were on the fence about this palette, I think you should get it. One con would be that if you already own NARS eyeshadows, you may find this palette has too many repeats. Especially since Alhambra, Galapagos, and Coconut Grove are some of NARS's most popular shades. However, if you're just getting into NARS eyeshadows this palette is perfect because it includes some of their best-sellers.

P.S. I'm not too crazy about the brush it comes with, but I regard it as a freebie so it's not much of a loss. Let me know of you own this palette! What are your thoughts on it?

  5. I want this palette so much as it looks simply divine. I think every shade can be used as often in palettes there can be a shade which one doesn't use very often which is sad when they can cost so much money.

Ahh I wonder what will be my first ever Nars product?

    1. Agreed! Although I do love my Naked palette there are 2 shades in particular that I NEVER use (don't remember the names, the gunmetal ones on the far right). I've used every single shade in the God palette xx

  8. Ahhh man I love this palette so so much but I'm pretty sure it's sold out everywhere now. Although in comparison to the Urban Decay palettes it really doesn't seem that great value! Still incredibly pretty, love the look you've created xx

  11. Oh my lanta, GIMME GIMME GIMME. This looks incredible! I've been buying so many bright colors lately, this would be perfect to change things up and bring me back down to natural looks! $59 is SO pricey but for highend I guess I can't be disappointed. Hmmmm, decisions decisions.

  12. Seeing your FOTD reminded me I should use brown more often, it really makes dark eyes stand out ^^ Lovely palette, though I wouldn't be able to justify getting it because I have more than enough neutrals to last me a lifetime : / Still, very pretty. xx

  16. It's a gorgeous palette and anything NARS is very tempting but since the colors here seem easily dupeable, I personally don't think I can justify the purchase.

    1. If you have a lot of neutrals then definitely it's not worth the purchase. I personally didn't have any colors like Galapagos, Night Clubbing or Bellisima. The major appeal for me is that they're a great set of neutral that comes together in a really small sized palette. It's the only eyeshadow palette I would take if I were traveling for a weekend xx

    1. Sorry for not labeling them in the picture! The look consists of Coconut Grove all over the lid and smudged on the bottom lashline. Kalahari was placed on the center of the lid. I used Bellisima to blend the color along my crease

Kalahari, Galapagos, and Coconut Grove are amazing and shadows I've considered getting in singles! It's such a pretty palette! Thank for reviewing it :) xx

    1. Hmmm right off the bat I would say cool. Bellisima is a really cool taupe (more so in real life). Night Clubbing (the black) is cool of course. Coconut Grove is also a cool deep brown. I think the warmest shades might be Galapagos and Kalahari xx

  44. I love Nars and am debating getting this but it is SO pricey and some of the colours seem similar to the Naked 1 palette...what do you think? Is it worth getting?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I ADORE the God Woman palette, it's amazing quality. And really the only colors that are very similar to the Naked palette are Alhambra and Kalahari. Bellisima might seem similar to Naked from the Naked palette but Bellisima is much cooler/taupe. The rest of the shadows are quite different from the ones in the Naked palette. You could own both without having repeats but the concept is still similar (a mix of shimmery and matte neutrals). All that said... :) I suggest getting the Naked palette because it's a much better value. You get twice as more eyeshadows and still get a mini Primer Potion AND spend $9. I'd say Naked because it's more bang for your buck :) Hope that helped x

  45. This palette is stunning, when these types of palettes come out , they are ones to snap up quickly!

  46. I like the colors and the portability of the palette but dislike the price. I know eventually, someone will come up with a dupe of this excellent neutrals palette and would wait until then. The colors are indeed useful, but I just cant bring myself to go for it. You're smokey eye look with the darker colors is wonderful by the way :)
