Etude House Water Color Blush Review

etude house water color blusher review
I'm quite excited to share today's product with you. :) This year I've been on an Asian cosmetics frenzy and like Lau (from Noire Dame) very well said, once the fever starts it doesn't stop! Anyways, I ordered a cream (rather gel) blush that Etude House recently released. It's the Water Color Blusher in Lilac 04. How cute is the packaging!! I do wish I had gotten all the shades available but I wanted to be sensible and try the formula out  first to see if I liked it. I did pick the "unconventional" shade, a pale lilac. I wanted to get the peachy color but I told myself that I already own too many peachy and pink cream blushes. It turns out that the lilac shade is actually very pretty and wearable.

Color
I have always thought that lilac or purple-toned blushes look best on the 2 opposite ends of the spectrum: really fair skintones and very deep ebonies. I have always loved purple on dark skintones! Since I'm a medium I think I'm in the awkward middle for lilacs (not light enough for it to show and not dark enough for it to contrast). Those were some silly misconceptions because I actually liked this blush on me.
Texture
This blush isn't really a cream but more of a gel. Reminiscent of the texture of Milky Tints, Jelly Blushes, and Benefit's Cha Cha and Posie Tint. However, it's thicker than the latter. It actually reminds me a lot of another liquid-y blush that comes in a squeeze tube: BECCA Beach Tints. (Which I surprisingly didn't enjoy too much).
Formula
The Water Color blush is easy to blend and has some sheerness. It's easy to apply and you most likely won't go overboard. It's not as sheer as a cheek tint or as BECCA Beach Tints which I like. It sets to a semi-matte finish wish makes it really long lasting! Also if you have oily skin and usually stay away from cream blushes, you might want to check these out.
Availability
If you can't get Asian cosmetics easily and have to resort to ordering online I highly suggest eBay because most sellers offer free shipping and fair prices. I ordered my Water Color blush from the online retailer KollectionK because at the time the blushes were being sold on eBay for $9-11 but KollectionK is selling them for $6.40 (plus I had a discount code)!! KollectionK launched recently so it's kind of a new retailer which made me hesitant at first but I took the plunge because I saw another blogger write about them. I can now personally recommend them because they have fair shipping prices, affordable products, and great costumer service. They also sent me really generous free samples! (Haha, sounds like an ad but really I'm just happy with my order.)

Overall
I honestly, loved this blush. It applies well with both fingers and brushes. I adore cream and gel blushes and own a few so I'm not always easily pleased. The Water Color passed my "test" with flying colors. The packaging is very adorable but be aware that you only need to apply little pressure for the product to come out. The first time I used it I pressed down too hard and a lot came out flying onto my hand. A considerable amount of product got wasted. :( Like I said, this isn't a color that I'll wear too often which makes me wish I had picked another one because I love the formula.

P.S. Sorry if the images for this post seem particularly yellow or orange, they were taken at around 6-7 AM.

  11. I also try to pick more unconventional shades when it comes to blush. Lilac is definitely one of them, though it has to be quite pigmented or it doesn't show up too well on my fair skin...

I love cream blushes most because my cheeks are kind of dry. This looks great! Will definitely try and grab this particular one once I get myself to an EH store.

  14. Oh my gosh Coco this looks GORGEOUS on you; seriously it just makes you glow!! And being a painter myself it makes sense that I'm super attracted to the packaging of these... though I would be worried that I may mix it up with some of my watercolors one day and end up putting actual paint on my face hahaha.

  28. I'd go for the lilac, as well. I like lavender/lilac shades. It's the only floral color that works really well with my skin tone that doesn't look "traditional." Too bad you didn't like the beach tints by Becca. I didn't care for them the first time I got it. Actually threw it away. But I gave them a second change, and I do like it, but it's very color dependent. Fig is the best color and the only I would repurchase.
