MAC Mineralize Concealer Review

MAC Mineralize Concealer - NC20 & NC30 ($20)
Hello, lovelies! Today I'll be reviewing a recent favorite concealer that I've been using nonstop for the past two months. Let me give you a backstory first. I was determined to get Benefit's Fake Up Concealer thanks to saleswoman extraordinaire Cassie (from Thrift Thick). I specifically wanted a very moisturizing concealers because my skin has been quite dry lately. I went to Sephora with hopes of buying Fake Up but they were out of the color Medium! :( As you know, Fake Up only comes in three colors so it's not the type of concealer where you can say "Oh, well. I'll just go one shade lighter." That day was one of those days when my mind was absolutely set and I needed a moisturizing concealer right away (I had a case of shopping frenzy). So I went over to MAC and got their Mineralize Concealer in NC30. It's exactly what I needed and I love it. Here's a more thorough review on it:

Color
I got NC30 because I'm an NC30 in MAC foundations (naturally) but the NC30 Mineralize Concealer is actually quite orange. It looks perfect on me once I blend it in. I'm quite warm so it's quite literally the same color as my skintone. I wanted a more "brightening" effect (and I loved the concealer so much) that I purchased the next lighter shade which is NC20. As you can see the difference between the two is huge. NC20 is actually too light for me so I don't wear it alone and I mix it with NC30 or wear NC30 alone (depending on the severeness of my dark circles). I think the jump in shades is a bit too drastic and would have loved something in between NC20 and NC30.
Coverage
As this is a thin and moisturizing concealer, the coverage is light. I don't mind that at all because my dark circles aren't too bad. If you do need more coverage then you will probably prefer a thicker concealer. It can be built up to a light-medium coverage and it won't go cakey because the formula is so thin.
Formula
Like I said, the Mineralize Concealer is a very thin and emolient formula. It blends easily and it's really forgiving on undereye dryness. It doesn't crease on me but concealers normally never crease on me so I don't know how good of a reference that is. The only concealer that has creased on me is the sticky one from Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage. I sometimes set the Mineralize Concealer to take away a bit of its luminous finish.
Overall
I was using the Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer for those "dry skin" days (and I still love it) but it's thicker in comparison so I like the Mineralize Concealer better for that purpose. The Mineralize Concealer might not be for everyone because it's not one of those concealers that sets matte. This will cause it to wear off quickly on oily skin. If you have dry/normal skin and only need light coverage then I definitely suggest giving it a try!

Hope you're having a good week, lovelies! Two quick announcements: the winner of my Mary Kay giveaway is Yessie C. and the winner of the Etude House giveaway is Amanda C. I have contacted both winners. A huge thanks to everyone who entered!

  1. Thanks for the review, sounds like a wonderful concealer. I have also bought a concealer recently can't wait to try it. x

  2. These look great! I'm currently using Mac's studio finish foundation as I need more coverage. But these look like they could be a good replacement for my Collection 2000 concealer!

  3. I quite dislike Fake Up. It's so moisturising that it disappears into the skin after some time. The MAC one is really good and I am considering of buying it. x

    1. Haven't tried it personally but I did swatch some of the colors at Sephora. The ring of moisture in the center is quite large so I definitely see what you mean. I'd still like to try it because I don't mind light coverage xx

  4. I shan't lie. I am surprised you are an NC 30. In your makeup less posts you appear to be much lighter. I find that I can't wear NC 30 because it is noticeably darker than I am, but more so because the undertone clashes with the rest of me. I have a NC 30 Pro Longwear concealer that I can't use. I wonder what happened to NC 25? I could have swore years ago I had an NC 25 foundation from MAC right after college. But they don't seem to make that shade anymore?

    1. I am about an NC25 during the winter but since it's so sunny here (and since my summer tan lasts so long) most of the times I'm an NC30. The Pro Longwear NC30 is SO close to my skintone that I don't even need blending into the neck (although my neck is a bit darker than my face which contributes to me looking a bit lighter since I wear a lot of facial sun protection when I tan). I also have always thought that my pictures wash me out a lot. I take my pictures in front of a window usually so I think that if I had some kind of professional lighting the colors would be a tad more true to life. Phew (long reply, lol). Other products offer NC25s but for some reason the Mineralize Concealer skips it (yet it offers an NW25!) Strange indeed. xx

  5. Thanks for the great review! I find that I use the same concealer for both spot-concealing and undereyes, but I've been hoping to branch out, so it's nice to see that the MAC concealer is so highly regarded. I'll have to do a swatch test between the MAC NW25 and MUFE Full Cover in 7 just to see which one would look better on me. Unfortunately, I have pretty oily skin.. hm. Nothing an extra dose of powder can't help, I suppose ;) x

    1. I've also used this one on my blemishes and since it's so thin it looks great and doesn't settle. The thing is that since it's light coverage it doesn't do THAT much for redness. Powder works wonders :) xx

  7. I've been having problems with dry patches under my eyes lately and I didn't even think that there are products out there that might not settle and highlight those areas. Might have to check this out.

    1. Do give it a try if your having some undereye dryness :) Also Benefit's Fake Up and Maybelline's Age Rewind are quite thin and good for dryness. xx

  8. I have yet to try Mac foundations or concealers. I think this would be too translucent for me. I prefer a full coverage concealer and foundation.

    1. No problem! :) I tried to be specific in reviewing so people that don't like light coverage or need long-wearing concealers would know that this might not be the concealer they need xx

  12. That's strange. I have that same concealer, MAC Mineralize, in NW25, which I purchased about a year ago. It does exist, maybe it wasn't available at your location?

    1. They do sell an NW25 but not an NC25. I use NCs because I have warm yellow undertones. It's strange that they offer an NW25 but not an NC25. It's not listed on their website or at the MAC stores (not even as sold out so I assume they don't make one).

  13. This sounds awesome, but i would need more coverage. Even my mineralize foundation can fall short on a bad day.

  17. Love your review Coco! I'm thrilled try this as I have combo/dry skin and I usually come across only few people who have dry skin issues like mine. I was also considering to get Bourjois healthy mix one but since summer's here and my skin does get a tad bit oily now after a long day, this would be a better option for its lighter texture! :) xo

  20. Haha saleswoman extraordinaire??? Shucks Coco you're too kind :) I'm sorry that you couldn't get Fake Up (maybe next time?) but it sounds like you found something else to love for concealing dry areas!! Glad to hear that <3 And you're right the jump between the two shades is HUGE!!!

  24. Thanks for the review! for some reason, I always imagined Mac's foundations ans concealers to be thick and full coverage. probably because I associate it with theatre makeup, which is kind of silly. I think ill try this concealer next, after the maybelline one with the spongy applicator for dark circles.

  27. Oh I'm yet to try MAC cosmetics- they are just super overpriced here in Australia! I still haven't found a concealer that I am completely happy with- finding the right colour match is so hard. How odd that the concealers do not come in an NC25- the NC20 to NC30 is such a huge jump! I like how the formulation is thin, as it'll be easier to apply and blend :)

  32. I'd love to try this. Even though I have acne in my chin and very oily skin I use a very illumination concealer, inglot cream concealers and they suit me really good as I can always powder my oily zones but they bring such a gorgeous and natural light to my eyes that actually disimule my huge pores :)

    great review coco x
