NARS Mata Hari Blush

nars mata hari blush
My NARS blush collection has been slowly growing as of late which makes me really happy because I love their blushes. I was a bit put off from them at first because the first powder shade I tried (Orgasm) didn't leave me with an overwhelming desire to try more. It's not a bad product but not my type of shade I think. Anyways, I was sent this product ages ago (more like 2 months ago) but put off reviewing it because I was a having a bit of trouble with the application. More on that in a sec...

Color
I think the color is what sets Mata Hari apart the most. It's a bright pink in the pan, but it comes off as neutral mauve on the skin. I think it's a versatile color that would look good on a bunch of different skintones. I'm sometimes tempted to call it a bubble gum pink but then I look at it and realize that it's not quite that.
Pigmentation
Mata Hari is consistent with the other NARS shades I've tried. The color is true to pan and very pigmented. I love this because darker/medium skintones don't need a bunch of layering and lighter skintones can use a fluffy brush for a light application.
Formula
The texture of this blush is luxurious and soft. However, I think that out of the 3 NARS powder blushes I own, this one is the hardest to blend. Not terribly difficult as in patchy-looking, but it needs a bit more blending so the edges don't look harsh. Because of that, I make sure I only apply Mata Hari with my fluffiest, less dense brush and use really light strokes. This could be attributed to the fact that the color packs a serious punch so it's something to keep in mind.
Overall
I like the blush and I love the color, but I wish it was  a tad easier to work with so I didn't have to spend so much time blending away the edges. It's definitely not a no-nonsense put-it-on-and-go kind of blush, but if you don't mind putting in the extra effort you will be pleased with the results. I often get compliments on my blush when wearing this one. It's also the blush I was wearing in yesterday's post. Hope this review was helpful!

  1. It looks so beautiful and natural on you! I have yet to try a blush from Nars, but I've been looking at Douceur and Sex Appeal a whole lot. Somehow Orgasm/Super Orgasm doesn't really appeal to me, even though they seem to be the more popular ones.

    1. I'm the same. I have Orgasm but I think it's just too shimmery for my tastes. When I wear it I think "wow, pretty shimmer" but then I never reach for it because I prefer satins and mattes xx

  9. This is a really gorgeous shade, probably not one I would have picked up (being more a fan of peachy pinks) but having seen it swatched I'm convinced! I need some more Nars in my life, I do love their Deep Throat blush but have found that it's gone quite hard in the pan and has become difficult to pick up on the brush, which is a bit of a let-down.

    1. That can often happen with shimmery blushes and eyeshadows. Try scraping off a bit of the top layers (yes sounds painful because you're wasting product but it really works!) xx

  10. Mata Hari looks so nice on you! I'm not usually a fan of the cooler/pinkier toned blushes but I think I need to check this one out. It kind of looks like NARS Sin & MAC Pink Swoon had a baby with Mata Hari lol.

  11. NARS blushes look nice and this color is quite lovely, however I'm not always drawn or attracted to their blushes for some reason. I really do like their lipsticks though.

  22. I always hear such wonderful things about Nars, this looks like a lovely product and the colour is perfect. It's a shame it's a hard product to blend though, with blushes I tend to apply them really quickly, it's always the last thing I do in my whole 'face routine'!

  24. The not so great blendability makes me hesitant to keep it on my wishlist and I wish the color came out of the pan brighter! It looks really lovely on you though. I think I'll keep it on the wishlist, but I'll check out the Tarte blushes first. They look stunningly bright! xx

  28. Just by the photo, this blush looks really similar to The Balm Cabana Boy, though the latter has some shimmer. Looks lovely on you, too bad it's kinda hard to work with : /
You look amazing as always Coco : ) xx

  29. Looks like a bright medium rose-mauve, I'm sure it's a colour that would look lovely on a range of skin tones. I find that some NARS blushes are shockingly pigmented (Sin is one of them) that they can be super tricky to wear! This one might be the case as well. It looks really well blended and soft on you though :)
