Product Spotlight: Concealers

concealer spotlight best of maybelline mac mineralize eraser revlon
Hello, beauties! I haven't done a Product Spotlight in ages (since my Face Products post) so I decided to assemble one and give concealers some love. I didn't title this post "My Favorite Concealers" because truthfully (spoiler alert) I could live without the Maybelline The Eraser. However these five concealers (technically six) are the ones currently on "rotation" in my makeup collection. Why do I need so many concealers open at the same time? Who knows. It's a beauty junkie thing, but it does have it's perks and justifications. They all vary in coverage and consistency.
If a concealer just doesn't work or I don't get on with it well, I retire it (i.e. throw or give it away). I haven't tried that many concealers in my lifetime (it takes so long to use one up!) but there have definitely been some that I haven't liked (the Maybelline Dream Touch Lumi or Sephora Creamy Concealer for example). The ones I'm showcasing today all fall into the average, good or great category which is why they made it into my rotation. Here's what I think about them....

01. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4): Sandra sent me this in a swap (bless her). It's such a hyped concealer and I think it's really good. I have to work with this fast because it sets quickly, but once it's on it does not budge. They coverage is really good, I'd say medium-full.

02. Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer (£8): I also got this one from Sandra. It's been featured in my blog a few times. It smells delicious and blends easily. I'd say its somewhat moisturizing and has medium coverage.

03. Revlon PhotoReady Concealer ($9): Since it's a stick concealer, it's a bit thicker and creamier than the rest. Still it's quite easy to work with and easy to blend. I've used this one a ton. It's nice under the eyes but I love it most on blemishes. Since it's a cream it really disguises texture well.

04. MAC Mineralize Concealer ($20): I have a full review on this one already (click here to read it) so I won't repeat myself too much. In a nutshell, it's the most moisturizing of the bunch. I love using it when my skin is dry or with a good coverage foundation because the coverage is light.

05. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer ($9): This one I like but I'm not blown away. I would repurchase every concealer mentioned except this one. It's not hard to blend and it doesn't crease but I don't love the formula. I wouldn't go as far as saying it sits on top of the skin or looks cakey but it doesn't "melt" into your face like the other ones. I also dislike the applicator because it's hard to tell how much you have dispensed and I always end up dispensing more than I need. This creates a gunky buildup on the brush. It takes getting used to, I guess.
the beauty milk concealers
I always knew that my concealers varied in color but I never knew it was such a noticeable difference until I swatched them side by side. I was truly amazed! They all suit me really well (expect the Maybelline Eraser and MAC NC20 which I can't use when I'm really tanned). I left them on my arm for some time while I got my camera and noticed how much the Collection and Bourjois concealers oxidized. That's something I have never noticed happen on my face.

  8. I tried the pen version of the Revlon Photoready, used it once and then it went straight to the bottom of my makeup bag as it did nothing at all for dark circles. My favourite for that is by far the Mac Pro Longwear, it's the only one I've ever found that does the job.
I do need to find a good one for blemishes though, so I might give a couple of these a try.
    Hope you're well lovely.

  14. Wow, they are all so different in color... but I'm sure that's exactly what would happen if I lined up swatches of all the BB creams I've used! I want to try the MAC Mineralize concealer :)

  15. I'm so glad to hear something other than "OMG AMAZING BUY IT" about the Maybelline concealer thing; I never thought it looked all that great but people seem to rave about it so I was thinking about giving it a shot but the way you describe it tells me that it wouldn't be something I'd like... just like I originally thought haha (sorry about that ramble). I'm still dying to try the Bourjois and Collection 2000 concealers but hate that we can't readily get them here in the states! On a side note I swatched the NARS creamy concealer at Sephora yesterday and kind of fell in love... I might be giving that one a buy sometime in the very near future ;)

    1. Haha I bought it because it was such a hyped concealer a few years back. Now that they released it in the UK it's become hyped all over again but I just don't think it's amazing. xx

  16. I think I have the worst luck in the world when it comes to concealer. Trying to find a light shade is the most difficult task! MAC are all too dark, but right now I'm using the Revlon Photofinish in light and it's seemingly ok. Ejnoyed this post as always:)

  18. I always wanted to try the maybelline one since i've read in a lot of blogs that the concealer was great but after reading yourreview and seeing the swatch i might pass on this cause i want my concealer medium to full. I might check out revlon and burjois next time i visit the drugstore. Thanks for this helpful review! :)

    1. I like it much better for undereyes. Not that it's bad for blemishes, but it doesn't cover redness or texture that well xx

  22. Ah I am always lusting over that Collection one when I see people talking about it.

I actually quite like the Maybelline Eraser, I have the "Neutralizer" shade which I use to brighten up my under eye area and I like it for that, but you're right it doesn't give much coverage. Bourjois healthy mix is one of my favourites! I love it for under eyes and everywhere else.

  23. I feel like I am the only person that does not have multiple foundations, concealers, powders, etc. in my makeup collection. I'm not saying it's bad or anything that others do, it's just an observation I've made. I don't know why I feel the need to only have one of each. I'm sure I could benefit from maybe having at least another one! Anyway! I really like the Tarte Maracuja. It's the best I've tried so far. It brightens up my face and, most of the time, doesn't crease. (It's getting a lot hotter now than when I first tried it in the colder months, so I'm sure that would make it crease just a tiny bit nowadays.) I would like to get my hands on the OCC concealer...

I have been looking for an extra concealer to take with me in my purse....I am really interested in the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer -- especially because it's medium/full coverage.

  33. Is it bad that I laughed when I saw the colors of the concealers all swatched together? Can't believe how well so many different colors work on you! You always make me want to try the Bourjouis Healthy Serum Foundation/Concealer. Need to find myself a UKer to swap with now! I love using Benefit's Erase Paste, but I've also loved stealing my mom's tinted eye brightener by Bobbi Brown. It's seriously the most brightening/concealing thing for under eyes I've ever tried. Glad she doesn't mind that I take it! Great post, Coco!

  35. That is quite an astounding colour difference! I wouldn't have expected them to oxidise so quickly as well. I have heard great things about Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer - I really want to try that one along with the Collection one which isn't available where I live sadly. Though the one concealer I'm really eyeing at the moment is the new NARS one!

  38. Great comprehensive review Coco! Lately I have been enjoying the LM Secret Camouflage. I love it has two shades so I can mix all year round to get a good match. In summer it doesn't need warming up either haha! Nothing conceals blemishes as well in my opinion xx

  41. Oh my, before I read the paragraph underneath your last picture I was like woaw that Collection concealer is so dark. I use this on blemishes, scars etc and I must admit I haven't noticed it oxidise on my face. I'm testing this tomorrow on my wrist out of sheer curiosity to see what it does :P

I love the Bourjous Healthy Mix Concealer, it can however be a little dry under my eyes but I find this with everything I've tried so far.

    1. Like I said above, it's not really noticeable on the face (at least for me) because it's a smaller quantity blended out. But on a heavy arm swatch that has been left to air dry it's quite noticeable. Although Jess mentioned it oxidizing on her face so everyone has a different experience. xx
