Hello, beauties! Today I'm reviewing a product I never thought I'd buy. I've seen the BECCA Luminous Skin Colour Ultra Sheer Foundation used in several Pixiwoo videos. However, I was never interested in it because the coverage is so sheer. I didn't see a point in buying such an expensive foundation with coverage that seemed almost non-existent. Why did I change my mind and decide to give it a try? Well, there are a couple of reasons. First of all, I really wanted to try more products from BECCA. So far I've only been impressed with the quality. Secondly, it's been featured many times on Fairytales and Coffee. I swear she can sell me anything. Lastly, and most importantly, it was on sale at Beautyhabit plus I had a $20 off code. I got it for more than half off! What better reason to try it? (Consumerism at its finest!)

Color Match
I got the shade "Nude" which looks a shade or two too light for me when I dab it on my face (because it's summer and I've been tanning). However, since the coverage is so sheer, it matches me almost perfectly when I blend it in. The sheerness makes this foundation, just like MAC's Face and Body, really forgiving when it comes to shade matching. I think the Luminous Skin Colour is brilliant for evening out your complexion. If your face is lighter than your neck or body you can use a darker shade to get them to match or fake a tan in a really natural way.
Coverage
Here's the deal breaker (or maker) for most people. The coverage isn't light, it's sheer. I consider MAC Face and Body to have a light coverage so for me the Luminous Skin Colour has a bit less coverage than that. I use F&B as a comparison because they both have little coverage and a dewy finish. My skin has cleared up a lot during the last year so for me the "brightening" effect of the Luminous Skin Colour is enough. Of course it's not the type of foundation that allows me to skip concealer, but I love it for "no makeup" days or good skin days.
Formula
Another reason why I like this foundation is because it has such a moisturizing texture. It's been the only foundation I've felt comfortable applying on non-moisturized skin. I usually never skip moisturizer but if I'm in a pinch (or I've just run out) I will reach for the Luminous Skin Colour. The finish is dewy/luminous. I usually stay away from dewy but I find that this lasts well on my skin when set with powder.
Cons
The biggest negative that I can think of that is pretty straightforward (as in, I'm sure it's a con for most people) is that it's the type of foundation you use up "quickly". I mentioned this in my review of Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua. With light/sheer coverage foundations you need a good full pump of product to achieve a noticeable difference on your face. Compared to medium/full coverage foundations where you only need a small pea-sized amount, this will cause you to use up the foundation faster. At this pricepoint, I would like the foundation bottle to last me a long time.
Overall
I think it's geared towards a very specific consumer: someone who has relatively good skin already, doesn't mind a sheer coverage, likes a glowy finish, etc. It can't be build up to a higher coverage, it just can't, so that eliminates anyone who likes medium-full coverage. However, if it fits the bill of what you're looking for then I think you'll really like it. I also like that it's not misleading (NARS Sheer Glow, I'm looking at you). It clearly states that its sheer and luminous in the name. You might also like some of its ingredients (coconut oil, avocado oil, vitamin B, and lactic acid) which feel really nice on the skin.

Now, here's the nitty-gritty, would I repurchase it? No. It comes down to this: the quality is great but it's not what I'm looking for personally. I like the sophisticated luminosity it provides and I love that I can mix it with really matte foundations to make them a bit more "fresh" and light. I love that it can make my face paler or darker in a very natural way. I don't like that it struggles with covering even the slightest redness. I would consider it to be more of a tinted moisturizer type product. Concealer is a wonderful product but the Luminous Skin Colour does frustrate me because it covers basically nothing. I don't want to have to conceal that much. I hope this review was helpful! :)

  1. Your reviews are always so helpful! I was thinking of trying this but I think I'll skip as I do like something that offers a little more coverage. Thank you for saving me a few pennies! <3

  2. You skin looks pretty flawless on its own so it's hard to see a difference with the foundation on. I don't think I would pay that price for something that has as little coverage as a tinted moisturizer, eventhough I do like tinted moisturizers for summer haha

    1. I don't see a difference in real life either. It only seems to add radiance. It hardly covers my slight redness or blemishes. xx

  3. It looks lovely on you as your skin is very clear, from what I've heard I have to agree on the reasons on why you wouldn't repurchase, especially as it is quite close to MAC F&B already.

    1. I actually prefer the dewyness of the BECCA vs the dewyness of Face & Body but F&B actually has some coverage so I would pick F&B xx

  4. thanks for the review! Wow, you weren't kidding - it's sheer! It looks great on you, but I think I need a bit more coverage on a day to day basis :D

  5. If I had great skin I wouldn't use anything on my face, aside from SPF. Maybe a tiny amount of blush : )

  6. You have such flawless skin, I'm so envious of the low level of coverage you can get away with!

  8. I don't really understand the purpose of a product that is this sheer.... It doesn't cover anything...

  9. Coco you're looking so tan!! I hope you're using sunscreen ;) Anyways, thanks (as always) for the thorough review! This really does sound lovely if you have pretty much perfect skin already but alas that's just not the case with me :/ And I'm with you; I'd rather use a heavier foundation than using something so sheer that I have to go crazy with concealer!

    1. Hahaha, that's my normal color. I always look so pale in blog pics because I photograph in front of a window and it totally washes me out. But I have been getting tan lately but definitely using sunscreen :)

  10. Such a good review!! I'm definitely bummed that the coverage is sheer. Eek! I tend to like the medium/medium-full coverage foundations.

You're so gorgeous you don't even need foundation, my goodness!
That's nice to know that you wouldn't be afraid of applying it without a moisturizer underneath.

  12. I think this is a great review Coco! It's definitely not a product for everybody.. Sometimes I think like.. if someone has such perfect skin, why would they bother adding foundation for more sheer that it is? I personally wouldn't. I have bad luck and my skin has lots of acne right now but If i'd better skin I'd totally skin all make up!

This foundation reminds me of L'oreal BB cream, one you reviewed some time ago as it gives your face some beautiful light and little coverage :)

    1. I actually like the L'Oreal BB Cream because the coverage is light but not sheer like this BECCA foundation. I actually like the L'Oreal BB Cream quite a lot :)

  13. Your skin is so much better than mine, and yet I love this darn too sheer foundation for my oft flawed face :) Granted, I use it when my skin is AWESOME, and to lighten other too dark foundations. It's definitely better on the drier and more perfected skin tones, yet I am on my third tube (of a different shade). It's a shame it wasn't to your liking but it's always great to see another point of view! If you are thinking of ways to use it up so it's not a complete waste of money, maybe you could dust some light powder to add more coverage and give a more matte look for more humid weather (or use it to alter other not quite right foundations by thinning them or making them less orange.) Since the coverage is so sheer, the formula will act as a binder on the color pigment from the powder. Even products that turn out to be duds for you can still serve a useful purpose that won't hurt as much. Lemonade out of lemons! :)

    1. Agreed, this foundation has a lot of nice uses even if the coverage is too sheer for my liking. Like I said, I think the texture, formula, and overall feel is FLAWLESS. I just wish it had a bit more coverage. If it could cover the redness on my cheeks (which is not very visible in photos actually) then I'd be thrilled. xx

  14. Thank you so much for reviewing this, really. I was so curious to try this out, but I (just like you) prefer medium-full coverage foundations. It seems like a great pick for people with really good skin though! x

  15. Thank you for the review! I really love becca shimmering skin perfector so the foundation was a naturally the next product from them I wanted to try. Personally, I like a bit more coverage but some days you get get away with a very sheer one. I tried a foundation finder by ps beauty (I love it so much, it's brilliant fun) http://www.beauty.ps/tool/foundation and they recommended that I try the nars sheer glow. I was going to try it but then I came across the Becca foundation..

    1. I adore Sheer Glow because it has good coverage and the finish is satin so it's not super matte drying but not dewy which makes it lasts a long time on my skin. I've used the foundation finder too, it's great! :)

  16. Thanks for your honest review, I'm always drawn to products like this, but I'd definitely need something with a bit more coverage x

  17. I tried this out and had to return it after just one use. I'm not sure if it was just mine but the scent of this product was very strong and left my skin extremely irritated. I must've had a reaction to it because my skin was left more red than usual. I was not happy with it.
I also agree that this product is geared towards people with very specific preferences. To anyone who may be interested in this product, I would recommend getting a sample of this before purchasing it if possible. Unfortunately that was not an option for me.
