MAC Amber Lights Makeup Look and Review

MAC Amber Lights Eyeshadow (Frost) - $15
After a little over a year of saving empty MAC packaging, I finally had enough for Back To MAC. In case you don't know what that is, it consists of taking 6 empty product packaging (I had 5 eyeshadow compacts and 1 blush compact) and trading them in for your choice of eyeshadow, lipstick or lip gloss from their permanent range. I've been on a nonofficial spending ban lately so getting a MAC eyeshadow for free felt pretty glorious. I picked the shade Amber Lights. I've also included a full makeup look along with the review of this eyeshadow.
I knew of Amber Lights' existence long ago. I was never interested in purchasing it because I thought it was like any other gold eyeshadow. It's not. Amber Lights has a slight copper/orange undertone to it, hence why it's called Amber Lights. Gold eyeshadows are typically yellow based so Amber Lights is different from other golds I've tried. It's so pigmented and rich. The texture is amazing and the finish is so metallic that it looks a bit foiled. It was really Jessica's video on her MAC Pro Eyeshadow Palette that convinced me to get it. Thanks for being an enabler, Jess. I love this eyeshadow!

I paired up Amber Lights with a golden peachy blush (pictured above). Funny story, that blush is not actually a NARS blush. It's Hot Mama by theBalm ($19). The reason it ended up there is that I needed a place to repress my Hot Mama blush. About two years ago, someone knocked over my makeup bag causing my NARS Laguna Bronzer to shatter.  I was quite upset, it was practically new. I was never able to part with that empty NARS Laguna compact (beauty lover tendencies). Thankfully it came in handy this year and I was able to repress Hot Mama into the NARS compact. I didn't do a very good job as you can see. There are ugly paper towel marks on the blush, lol. It was my first repressing. :)

  1. This is incredible, your eyes look so beautiful. I really like how you have combined the three eye-shadows together :)

Such a shame someone broke your NARS Laguna, I think I would have shed a tear.

  4. I really really really want it more than ever now. Of course, it's been on my wishlist since I saw swatches of it on Temptalia, but now you're making me want to bite the bullet. You're so lucky you could get an eyeshadow as a BACK2MAC! Most counters only let you get lipsticks, and since I already have way too many lipsticks, I got two lippies for my sister and a friend instead haha! Fabulous look btw! You look so gorgeous with those smouldering eyes :) x

  12. Coco this look is GORGEOUS!!! I mean, getting something for free is great anyways but when it's beautiful as well? That's fantastic :) And that's such a sad story about your Laguna bronzer; glad you were able to repress a different blush (and a gorgeous one at that) into the compact... I probably would have saved it as well haha.

  17. The makeup is gorgeous and flawless Coco! What a lovely shade of gold Amber Lights is, I love gold in all its shades and forms, even did an entire post about it LOL Too bad about the Laguna bronzer : / I hate when that happens, I've had my fair share of shattered powders, including one beloved teal eyeshadow from Coastal Scents which I haven't replaced because I forgot to write down the number! 34. Amber Lights looks gorgeous on you - very flattering for your skin tone! I find yellowish golds don't really look good on me - need to look into more coppery/amber ones. And you did a great job putting that blush into the Laguna packaging!

  35. I always avoid Amber Lights but it looks like I might be heading to MAC soon. Great job on the blush--I would have never know the difference.

  44. Love love love the eye look! The gold paired with that tiny bit of smokiness reminds me of something you'd see in a Victoria's Secret show! It looks amazing on a tanned skin like you're own, I'm not sure how this colour would go on my pale skin though, it looks like it has the potential to lean quite orange.

  47. I looked up this gold and brown eye makeup look to try and help myself get over the fact that it's March 30th in the northeast, and it's cold, and miserable. I need some sun, if not outside, then on my eyelids, when I look in the mirror. Hmph. -grumpy grumpy-
