Another bit of mascara history (I could talk about mascaras for ages), I also really love Bad Gal Lash from Benefit. Again, it's a really expensive mascara so it's out of the running for now (plus I have a love-hate relationship with it's humongous brush). I'm strictly looking for a drugstore mascara. I will gladly pay high-end prices for foundations, powders, eyeshadows, etc. because they can last me years. Not mascaras though, 4 to 6 months and I already have to replace them. I really like rubber brushes and wet formulas but my favorite combination is a traditional fiber brush paired with a drier formulation. I'm more of a volumizing girl instead of lengthening. That said, there are some lengthening mascaras I do enjoy (the Collection 2000 Super Size and Jordana Best Lash being two of them).
Now that all that ramble is out of the way, let me review the mascara at hand: the Maybelline Volum'Express The Falsies Flared. I got this because Maybelline mascaras are extremely popular and well-praised, The Falsies being no exception. I actually prefer Cover Girl and L'Oreal mascaras but I decided to give this a shot anyways. The formula is normal-dry and the wand is a traditional fiber one (with a slight curve). On my lashes, The Falsies Flared doesn't build up too well. It also makes my lashes slightly crunchy. I find the application to be tricky because of the flexible/bendy head. It's a love-hate thing. I'm more on the hate camp because, after over a month of usage, I still find myself wishing the wand was stiff and didn't have that flexibility "dent" near the tip.
The ironic thing is that, even though this mascara is not one I would repurchase, it's the one that gets me the most compliments (both offline and on). Seriously, it never fails, which is why I wish I liked it better because the final effect is very nice. If you have similar mascara preferences, let me know which one is your favorite in the comments! :)
