DIY Honey Almond Lip Scrub

honey shea sugar diy lip scrub recipe
Hi, lovelies! Today'll be sharing my favorite recipe for a Do-It-Yourself lip scrub. It's super easy and effective. Lip scrubs are great for exfoliating dry, flaky lips. A lip exfoliation can make your lipsticks look amazing, specially the unforgiving ultra mattes. I also wanted to share these awesome glass jars I found at T.J. Maxx which are great for storing any kind of DIY scrubs and hair/skin masks (They're actually spice jars). I like that they have a chalkboard rectangle for easy labeling. The set even came with chalk.

INGREDIENTS:
- Sugar (brown or white)
- Honey
- Shea Butter
- Almond Extract (optional)

Most DIY lip scrub recipes consist of just honey and sugar. While this works great at exfoliating, it doesn't do too much for moisturizing. Adding Shea butter not only helps treat the lips, it also makes the mixture thicker. I used a bit of my L'Occitane 100% Pure Shea Butter tin. The ratio of the ingredients is up to you. It depends on how gritty and thick you want the texture to be. Brown sugar will give you more exfoliation, while white sugar will yield a smoother (and less gritty) scrub. I add almond extract purely for the scent (which I love!) but you can omit this or add your favorite extract/oil.

I must stress this, go easy on the liquid ingredients. Your scrub should be mostly composed of sugar. If not your scrub will be too runny and it will drip off your lips. Don't worry if the mixture looks too dry at first. That's actually better because over time it will start to become more liquid.

Do you usually make your own lip scrubs or do you buy them?

  4. Those jars are super cute! I don't usually use sugar scrubs 'cause I don't find them to be effective and my toothbrush does the job just fine haha

  9. Great Idea :) And i love the cute little pots you picked up too~ This is probably a cheaper alternative to the LUSH lip scrubs which are a bit on the pricey side for what it is.

Thank you for sharing and i hope you have a lovely day~ <3

  12. This looks amazing! I've been meaning to make my own lip scrub for a while (I'm not a huge fan of the artificial fragrance in the LUSH ones) so I will be trying something like this soon :)

  13. I've honestly never dabbled in the D.I.Y. beauty department (not even face masks)... I'd just much rather buy them because a.) I'm lazy, and b.) I'd rather put my trust in the 'experts' rather than my crazy kitchen haha. I absolutely love the jars you got though; they're so cute and perfect!! Would be so perfect for little gifts :)

    1. Haha, it's okay though. What you're using in the kitchen is just natural food. Much safer than some of the cheap fillers and harsh chemicals they use in some store-bought skincare products.

  33. These jars are such a find! I tend to make my own lip scrub as well, I just use sugar and some olive oil! That's why I've never tried any of Lush's lip scrubs or similars, I can just make my own for free! Thanks for sharing, I'll definitely try out your recipe! xx

    1. Yeah, I only use scrubs once in a while when my lips are flakey (which is rare) so I don't find that purchasing a scrub is worth it for me.
