Maybelline Electro Baby Lips in Berry Bomb and Minty Sheer

Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Collection in Berry Bomb and Minty Sheer - $4
When I saw the Electro Collection of the Maybelline Baby Lips online I knew that I wanted at least one. Just look at the packaging! I love it! When I saw them at the drugstore I had an impulse to buy all of the shades (especially with the BOGO 50% off offer). However, I restrained myself because I have too many lip balms already. Also, I really like the Baby Lips but I don't love them. Keep reading for an in depth review and swatches...

The formula for these new Electro Baby Lips feels exactly the same as the original one. Maybelline Baby Lips are sheer lip balms with a hint of color. They make your lips very soft and shiny (but not as shiny as a lip gloss). The formula feels very emollient and isn't thick. The reason I don't absolutely love the Baby Lips is that I've found that I rarely ever reach for them. Although they're the perfect lip product to throw in your bag for a low maintenance application throughout the day (great for school).

I think my issue lies in the fact that I obviously don't reach for them when I want a lip color because they're so sheer (except Pink Punch which has quite nice pigmentation for a balm). And when I want a lip balm I always pick something else over them (like Burt's Bees, Fresh or L'Occitane balms). The reason being that the Baby Lips don't sink into my lips, they sit on top until they wear off. My lips don't feel very treated afterwards, they feel practically the same as they did before application. This may be different for you as lips react differently to formulas. The point is that they fall into that Twilight Zone of always getting overlooked when I open my makeup drawer.

Anyways, I actually ended up loving both colors. Minty Sheer has the slightest green undertone when swatched on my arm but on the lips it's transparent. It also has a slight minty feel (less noticeable than the mintyness of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains for example). Berry Bomb looks so pretty on the lips, it adds a subtle purple tone. I'm glad because the purple one from the permanent collection (Grape Vine) gave practically no color payoff.

Have you tried any of the Baby Lips? How do you like them?

  6. Ooh Berry Bomb looks super lovely! I've not tried anything from the Baby Lips line yet, I think they've just come to the UK but I'm trying to resist, I definitely don't need any more lip balms!

  7. I have Pink Punch and Cherry Me, and I have to completely agree with you! I always overlook them in my drawer - partly because I don't really think the colours flatter me that well, and there are so many other lip products that I'd rather be wearing!

  8. I have Cherry Me and I really like the colour payoff but you're right about your lips not feeling particularly "treated" after use. Now they've hit the UK there's a massive rush to try them all and I think people are noticing that they arent wonder products! I like them though, Cherry Me is a great tint for minimal make up days. Berry Bomb looks very pretty on you, I love that light wash of colour - very wearable and easy to apply on the go. xx

    1. Yeah, I remember there was such a hype when they came out and I wanted all of them since they were pretty affordable but after trying my first 2 I was like "Nah, I don't need the whole range". xx

  9. I bought one when they first came out put it on my lips and hated it so much i threw it away. Found it to be very drying. i really enjoy my burt's bees, Fresh, Oils of Aloha Kukui Natural Dry Lip Therapy (best i've tried for my chronic dry lips) and korres though, i'll have to try out L'Occitane.

  11. I have yet to try any of these from the neon (electro) collection but I definitely am tempted... only problem is that you described my Baby Lips sentiments EXACTLY in this post; seriously Coco, you read my mind and feelings haha! So we'll see if if I ever nab one or two of these but they are something that might be nice to just have :)

  12. Berry Bomb is such a pretty color! I haven't tried any of the Baby Lips yet, but maybe I will pick this one up if I see it. Wasn't impressed with the pigmentation of the others I've seen swatched, and I'd rather just use a great lip balm with no color if these don't have much color to them, either...

  14. Berry Bomb looks lovely! I think these have just come out in the UK but I have been trying to resist lip products lately just simply because I have too many... Although if I do see these about one or two might just slip into my basket! xx

  15. Oh I like the way Berry Bomb looks on you! I'm still not totally sold on Baby Lips as lots of people have mentioned the fact that they sit on top of the lips which I'm not too keen on. I might pick up Pink Punch though just for the tint. xxx

  19. It's a shame the formulation falls short for you. I have severely dry lips, so maybe that's why I don't have a problem with it sinking it. These are lovely looking though! xo

  20. Berry Bomb is subtle but pretty! I haven't tried any of the tinted Baby Lips that have been released - I'm forever loyal to the plain menthol one which I find to be really moisturising, comfortable and nourishing on the lips :)
