Illamasqua Cream Pigments Review

illamasqua cream pigments review dab hollow bedaub
Hello, lovelies! When I reviewed the Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Hollow I mentioned I would be doing an overview post reviewing all the ones I own. Illamasqua Cream Pigments are multi-purpose products that can be used as lip colors, blush, eyeshadow, glitter adhesive, eyeshadow bases, face paint, etc. Basically anything you can think of. They're a multi-purpose product for makeup artists (and beauty lovers) like the MUFE Flash Color Palette

Of course some colors are more versatile than others for general everyday wear. A pink coral color like Androgen (not shown) can easily serve as an eyeshadow, blush, and lip color while a pastel mint such as Bedaub may not be everyone's choice of lip/cheek color. I actually bought these with a very specific project in mind so I plan to use them as face/lip paints. I'm glad to report they work quite nicely for that purpose.

Pigmentation
These pigments truly deliver. They're highly pigmented (sorry for being redundant), opaque creams that can be sheered out if desired. The colors are true to pan.
Texture
All of them are very creamy and blend easily. I do want to point out that they perspire more than any other cream product I own. And the perspiration that forms on top is not the same color of the product but a disgusting yellow color. See the image above. It looks even more gross in person. This is because they have a high mineral oil content.
Longevity
They're fairly long wearing depending on where you use them. On the lips and face they wear well. On the eyes not so much. They crease and never really set the way a good cream eyeshadow does. Again, I think it's because of the mineral oil. The problem is solved by wearing thin layers on the eyes and powder eyeshadow on top, but I would never wear these as cream eye colors alone.

Overall
If you're looking for unique cream eyeshadow colors, skip these (sadly). Unless you don't mind wearing a primer underneath and a similar eyeshadow on top. To me that defeats the purpose of a cream eyeshadow and would make them more of an eyeshadow base in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy them on the eyes (as bases) but for $26 each I'd rather get a MAC Paint Pot or NARS Eye Paints (which can work both alone and layered). On the face and lips they work very nicely but considering the Illamasqua Cream Pigments mostly come in "unusual" colors (purple, lilac, green, brown) they will probably appeal to a very specific audience.

Let me know if you've tried any. And have a good week! :)

    1. Sadly it's not the right color for my skintone but it's an amazing contour on light skin tones xx

  2. That mint green is stunning! The brown reminds me of the matte taupe/brown shade of the Maybelline Tattoos!

  7. I had the purple shade a long time ago, I purchased hoping it would be a nice cream shadow but I agree with you, they're just not great at that. I do want to invest in hollow though, it looks like a lovely cream contour colour & I think the peach would be super lovely as a blush. Great review sweet!

  10. Acheaper alternative that I know people rave about could maybe be the Maybelline colour tattoos! I know they have a pretty solid range of colours as well.

    1. The Color Tattoos are great as cream eyeshadows, they don't crease at all. I do wish they had a matte lilac and mint green. Although I prefer the shimmery/metallic formula of the CTs over the mattes xx

  11. The purple and mint are gorgeous! I have the cream pigment in Androgen, I love it as a blush and it's alright as a lip colour, but it's definitely not a colour I like to wear on my eyes so I've never tried it as a cream shadow x

  14. I love the way they package their products. I always have that problem of the cream shadows creasing, but I can see how these would be nice on lips (in the right colors).

  15. Thanks for the honest review. I've never tried any Illamasqua before, I would give these a go but I use these kinds of products as a base and it's sad that they don't perform that well like that.. I read about a great contouring cream for Illamasqua, I'm definitely checking it out in store when I head to London.. but I want to feel the texture first for myself!

  17. Such a shame! I've never tried these but always wanted to, but the creasing would definitely put me off. There are so many great cream shadows nowadays that don't. Thanks for the review!

  19. These shades look so lovely and unique! Too bad I would never be able to pull them off. I really wish I had brown eyes. They're much easier to work with when it comes to makeup. :D

  23. Thanks for your review on these, such a shame about the creasing, but I agree - I expect cream eyeshadows to stay on and be fuss free x

It is a shame that you cannot where these alone :( The green and purple are such lovely colors!
