NARS Sheer Glow Foundation: Punjab and Stromboli

nars sheer glow foundation review punjab stromboli
I'm finally going to review one of my favorite (if not my favorite) foundations of all time: NARS Sheer Glow ($42). I've been blogging for over 8 months and have never dedicated an entire post to this product. I've mentioned it so many times that I must have been under the impression that I had reviewed it. This is a very popular foundation that has been reviewed extensively. Hopefully this post will help people with similar skintone and skintype as me who are researching this foundation. For reference, I'm around an NC30 in MAC (warm, yellow undertones), I have normal skin, and live in tropical humid weather (so if anything, I can relate more to people with oily skin because of the heat).

Coverage
Sheer Glow has a good medium coverage. It covers my redness completely and on good days I can skip concealer with this. The good thing about a medium coverage is that it's an in between, you can build it up or sheer it down.
Finish
I consider Sheer Glow to have a satin finish (yes, its name is deceiving). Of course, on dry skin it may seem more matte and on very oily skin it may seem more dewy. If you don't love dewy finishes (like me) then don't worry, Sheer Glow is not glowy. If you have very oily skin you can get a sample of Sheer Matte.
Longevity
I find it to have a really good lasting power. It lasts all day one me. For a special event or a particularly long day, I do use a face primer underneath.
Color Match
I think Sheer Glow has a great color selection. If you are very pale you might like Siberia (their lightest shade). The reason I have two shades is because I tan a lot in the summer so the darker shade (Stromboli) is way too dark for fall/winter. It is not necessary to have two colors of course, but when I really love a foundation I like to use it year round. I'd love to have a summer shade of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum too.
Price
It's a very expensive foundation so be sure to get a sample first if you can. I find that a pump is more than enough for my face and neck so I usually use half a pump. That means a bottle will last you years so you can think of it as an investment.

Annoying things about Sheer Glow: It doesn't come with a pump so you have to purchase it separately (it costs $6). Also, once the pump is in you can't put the original rectangular cap back on. I think it looks a bit ugly with just a pump, lol. However, the pump locks so you don't have to worry about accidental spilling.

  4. Glad you're loving this so much! I got some samples of this in Deauville recently and it was great! A bit dewy for summertime, but I can see this being perfect during the winter months :)

  5. I was matched to Punjab at Sephora but it was too peachy-neutral on me. Stromboli would be my ideal color is they made it a level lighter. It's too deep but the right tone. But I am not a fan of NARS foundations because my skin oils break it out apart super easily.

    1. Stromboli is good for a lot of people because it has an olive tone and most foundations don't make olive toned shades. If only, like you said, it came in darker and lighter colors.

  9. I have this foundation in Siberia and I love the colour match. I really like wearing this foundation when I have good skin with few issues, as I find in the cooler months when my skin is normal/dry it shows up every bit of dry skin and doesn't look as nice. xx

    1. During the winter I definitely switch to a thick moisturizer with Sheer Glow because it's not dewy so like you said it can feel a bit "grabby" on dryness xx

  10. I'm trying out a sample for this and really love it! I've been wanting this foundation for a while but I hate how you can't put the cap back on if you use the pump! x

  14. That's a little bit obnoxious about the pump being extra but I suppose since the product delivers, you can overlook it. This was a super helpful post because I've been debating whether to get it and the finish is just too stunning. Thanks for your review!

  17. I am definitely interested in purchasing this foundation. I received a sample of it once but it was in the wrong shade for my skin tone... even so, I loved the consistency! Definitely weird that it doesn't come with a pump though! Thanks for the review :)

  24. I'm really curious about this, I always read good things about it and want to try it some day. Also I love dewy and glowy finishes, and I think this could be the perfect liquid foundation for my skin.

  27. I've got this foundation and unfortunately I won't repurchase. The reviews I've read since purchasing are split...some people love it and some people just can't get on with it. Sadly I'm the one who can't get on with it! Rather than leaving my skin looking radiant or glowing it leaves it looking quite flat and dull, oddly mine dries to a matte-flakey finish and the wear time is absolutely awful!! The product definitely doesn't reflect it's name. I was so disappointed because I'd wanted to try it forever.

  28. Hi sweety, so nice of you to share your opinion, I just have a question, I just bought one of this, and it didn't come with the pump, it came wrong?, please let me know, thanks

    1. Hey, Kathia! Sadly (very sadly since they are very expensive foundations) NARS foundations don't come with pumps. You have to buy them separately for $6 at NARS.com, Nordstrom or other places. Also, a quick note. Once you screw in the pump, you're not going to be able to put the square cap back. Luckily, the pumps have twist locks.
      Hope that helps! :)
