Review: MAC Peachykeen Blush

mac peachykeen blush review swatch
MAC offers an insanely large amount of, well, everything. They have a bunch of blushes to choose from. What I love about their powder blushes is that they're categorized according to finish: frost, matte, satin, sheer tone. You know exactly what you're getting even if you're not able to swatch the product in person. I admit that I don't own very many MAC blushes, I have five at most. So far I've had great luck with their quality but I must say that the shade Peachykeen has been my least favorite.

Color
Peachykeen is a shimmery peachy pink. The shimmers are fine and gold colored. It's not the type of shimmer that disappears on the face, it's definitely noticeable (even when you're not in direct sunlight) so matte lovers beware. However, it is by no means glittery or chunky. The finish is labeled as Sheertone Shimmer.
Pigmentation
Peachykeen is very nicely pigmented. I find it more pigmented than its close sister NARS Orgasm Blush. Orgasm and Peachykeen are extremely similar. On the first image (the swatch at the top) Orgasm is on the left and Peachykeen is on the right. They basically look the same, except Peachykeen is more potent (more pigmented).
Formula
The texture is soft but there's something about it I don't like. The longevity is average to good. However for some reason it goes on patchy. It's not as bad over foundation but on a bare face it doesn't look as good as I'd like. I haven't had this problem with many other blushes so I can't put my finger on it.

Overall: It's a gorgeous color, but very common. I'd say skip and go for theBalm Hot Mama or NARS Orgasm. I have a post comparing those two here in case you're interested.

  1. This is such a gorgeous color! What a shame about the patchiness.. I don't own any peaches or rose golds in my blush collection so I may just check out theBalm's Hot Mama; I've swatched NARS Orgasm at counters before and I wasn't too impressed with it. x

    1. Honestly I don't LOVE Orgasm either. Like I said in my Hot Mama/Orgasm comparison post, I prefer Hot Mama a million times over. So Hot Mama is the one I'd recommend :)

  5. Looks very pretty when swatched but not so much on the cheeks, I think. Loving the new layout btw! =)

  6. Such a pretty shade, shame about it being patchy on application. Definitely going to take a look at some of The Balm blushers x

  7. I don't own a MAC blush and I don't know why! I think I like NARS and NYX blushes so much that I just never think about buying a MAC one! This is a very pretty color and looks nice on you! wish it wasn't patchy! xx Rena Kiss and Make Up

    1. NARS blushes are really good. Shame they're almost $30 each, which is why I think I'd rather buy MAC xx

  8. The colour is super lovely, but it's a shame the formula isn't the best. Not what you'd expect from something that's quite pricey!

  9. I do love this shade but I just know I have 3 different brands that offer this colour. But a great shade to start with!

    1. Yeah, it's a great shade that I think everyone should own but many brands do them so most makeup lovers have at least one I think :)

  10. I love that Mac have such a huge selection of products - but I often get overwhelmed when I pop in & forget what I had my eye on. I don't own any Mac blushes - but really like the look of this Peachykeen, it looks lovely on you.

  11. I only have one MAC blush (Well Dressed) and I have to say I am a tiny bit disappointed with it as well. For the price, I expected it would be better. It can go on a bit patchy and I also wish it was more pigmented. It's quite surprising that I keep discovering really cheap blushes that work better than my MAC one... I haven't tried any from NARS yet, so I really want to give them a go at some point.

  12. I have this shade too, I always go for peachy colours but I think I'll opt for something more pink on my next MAC visit. Knowing me, I'll probably end up buying something peach or try NARS even! x

    1. NARS & TARTE have amazing blushes. I don't even know why I bother with MAC blushes. I'm a MAC addict, but I just think NARS & TARTE knock blushes out of the park. Enjoy your NARS & TARTE blushes doll :)

  16. This is a gorgeous colour but seeing as I don't wear foundation it's probably not the best one for me. I have Mocha which is one of the matte blushes and it applies brilliantly.

  18. I'm a matte blush kinda gal, so I would have stayed away regardless but its still a shame to hear its not too great. I've heard about this blush a lot and heard some mixed reviews, but I really respect your opinion as you've been one of my favorite bloggers since I've started. Thanks for sharing :)

  19. I've had some problems with MAC blushes too. I bought Dame recently and the surface sealed, it's really hard to rub off any product. Ugh.

  26. It looks great on you, Coco! I still prefer the lighter NARS Orgasm, but both are gorgeous! I hope you rug/carpet/background didn't turn a coral shade when you flipped the blush over, haha! :)

    1. Haha, it did get a bit pink but it was easy to wipe away. I use that rug exclusively for blog pictures so it wasn't a big deal. My blush didn't get dirty with feet stuff lol
