Tired Eyes: Beauty Remedies

tired eyes eye rollers garnier yes to hard candy makeup loreal
We all have those mornings when we wake up after a sleepless night. Our eyes look tired, red, sunken or puffy. Nothing beats a good night's sleep, but makeup really helps disguise a lot of things. Here are the products and steps I like to use to counteract tired eyes. P.S. You may or may not have noticed that The Beauty Milk went through a bit of a makeover (again?!) I'm still playing around with it but I've been wanting to go monochromatic for a while. Let me know what you think!

Step 1. A caffeinated undereye roller can help counteract puffiness. A bunch of brands offer them now. My must have is Hard Candy's Eye'M Tired (A+ for the name). It's only $5 and works great. Try it: Garnier Skin Renew De-Puff Undereye Roller ($12). I like this one but still prefer Hard Candy's, plus this one is pricier. Skip it: Yes To Blueberries Brightening Eye Roller ($15). I regret buying this one! The product might be nice but the rollerball tugs at my undereyes (big no-no) because it doesn't glide and gets stuck. A sidenote: these rollers help with puffiness (because of the caffeine). If your undereyes are sunken (like mine) these won't do much for you. I don't notice much brightening from these.

Step 2. Curl your lashes! I only curl mine about 2 out of 5 times. However there are two instances when I make sure I do curl them: when I haven't slept and for special occasions. Mascara is a must too. Perky and long lashes will make the eye look more open.

Step 3. Use an illuminator or highlighting concealer. Don't be afraid to go a shade lighter with your concealer when you haven't slept. A thin, liquid formula might also be best because your skin could be dehydrated. A bunch of brands make "lumi" concealers. The one pictured above is the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Highlighter Concealer in Medium ($13).

Step 4. Add shimmer! Don't worry, using some just on the inner corners of your eyes is enough. It's not a world-changing beauty secret, but if you're not highlighting your inner corners yet then you must! I try to avoid using white during the daytime so it isn't as obvious. The eyeshadow pictured above is the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Let's Skate ($20).

Have a good Sunday! Leave your tips for tired eyes below.

  1. love the new layout! always looks so chic and your photo is gorgeous!

I really want to try the magic lumi! I currently use mac's prep & prime highlight, which is okay, but for the price I feel like a drugstore product would probably work just as well!

  12. My eyes always look tired-no thanks to my dark under eye circles :( So, brightening the eye area is an absolute must for me. Sometimes, concealers aren't enough for me-yea, my dark circles are that bad. But I recently discovered MAC's Prep + Prime Highlighter in the shade 'light boost' and boy, does do wonders! I just apply it on top of my usual concealer and it makes me look like I got hours upon hours of sleep!

  26. Sometimes it's so hard to look at your post cause most of the products in them aren't available here in Finland! T^T But I think I'll survive ;)

I've been using Clinique's all about eyes serum roller almost daily, but it doesn't really do much for my eyes as it's de-puffing and my undereyes don't really even get puffy :D

  30. I have the Garnier roll on and it feels reaaal good after getting it from the fridge. I stopped using it because after a couple of weeks I noticed my eyes were a lot more sensitive and prone to itchiness. Totally bizarre. I came back to using it again after months of racking my brain on what caused the eye dilemma. I just attributed it to my eyeliner/mascara that doesn't come off properly+eye roll on.

  31. Definitely think that curling eyelashes instantly makes your peepers look that little bit more awake :). Always a find a bit of highlighter in the corners and under the brow bone can add a healthy and wide awake glow. Great post :)
