Illamasqua Raindrops Nail Polish

illamasqua raindrops nail polish review
Hello, beauties! Happy Friday. Quick Nail of The Day post for you today. Illamasqua Raindrops ($17) is a nail polish I had wanted for ages. After finally getting my hands on it, I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed. It looks stunning on the bottle and in other bloggers' swatches, but on my nails it's pretty bleh. It might be due to the fact that it's time to throw out the base coat I've been using for the past year. Yet, I haven't had any problems with my other nail polishes.

Formula-wise, Raindrops is pretty solid. Illamasqua nail polishes resist chipping and wear well. This color just doesn't have the wow factor I thought it would. I do get compliments on the shade, but the speckles are not noticeable enough for my tastes. It also looks much goopier on my nails than in other swatches. Are they selling old bottles of this now? I've noticed it getting low reviews at Sephora.com.

Let me know what you think! Also, what polish are you wearing on your nails right now?

  2. hmm it is odd that it doesn't look that great. i know there's been so much hype about this & pink raindrops but i don't think either are as good as the regular illamasqua polishes xx

    1. I don't know what happened. It looks so much better on other bloggers. I guess they're better at nail polish than me? haha

  3. It does look thicker than I've seen it before =/ Bummer because it's a really pretty and unique shade.
I'm currently wearing China Glaze's Put A Bow On It, I've been loving micrglitters lately haha

  7. Annoying how it's underwhelming (I agree, it's a little dull) especially since it's a more expensive polish!

  8. I think it looks lovely in the bottle and such a gorgeous shade but when applied not so much. Its sad that it didn't turn out as great.

  9. This color looks so pretty but I see what you mean about the specks not being very prominent! It reminds me a little bit of butter london lady muck-- which is one of my favorite blue/gray polishes!

    1. I'll have to go look at Lady Much. Butter London makes great polishes and if it's your fave then it must be good!

  10. Ah honest review and it's a shame it didn't live up to expectations. I hate that disappointed feeling after longing for something xo

  11. It does look pretty in the bottle, but lackluster once it's on the actual name. I'm currently wearing Zoya's nail polish in "Rikki" for obvious reasons. ;)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this and the swatch is helpful.

  14. Its is a beautiful color but I agree, it would definitely go up a few notches if the sparkles were more noticeable. Still pretty anyway. :-)

  17. I really wanted this but I'm sure it was sold out in the UK or has it been re-released? It's a shame it was underwhelming for you, it's still a pretty polish though :-) xx

  19. This is such a gorgeous colour, such a shame the formula wasn't what you were expecting :(

I have yet to try Illamasqua polishes - the price tag always puts me off but maybe I'll be brave this year and try one! x

  22. Hmm maybe it's to do with the undertones of the colour?
I don't know, but I do see what you mean. I think that bigger speckles would look good too!

  24. Hmm, did they bring this back? I remember when it was super hard to find and selling for exorbitant prices on ebay. Maybe you just got an off bottle? Or they reformulated it somehow to the original? Either way that's a shame!

  25. Beautiful polish! I've been eyeing it in Sephora every time. I wouldn't spend $17 on a polish for now, but it's definitely something I look forward to doing in the future ;)

  31. Essie has a shade called Bikini So Teeny that's darker than this and doesn't have sparkles, so I think I'll go grab that instead; this just isn't speaking to me. I picked up another mini polish from Sephora (100 point perks!) and it's a taupe, just in time for me to jump on the taupe bandwagon!

  32. I can totally see where you're coming from. It looks a little bit more ecxciting in the bottle and it does look quite thick on the nails...

  33. It's a nice colour, but I do agree the speckles aren't very noticeable.
