Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow Single - ($20 / £15.50)
This is a post I've had on my drafts for ages and somehow it got forgotten and pushed back in favor of more newly released items. I have named Illamasqua as my favorite makeup brand previously and it's a claim I still stand by. I love their brand philosophy ("makeup for your alter ego") and their eye for color and unique products sets them apart from the rest. Today I want to share with you my eyeshadow collection from Illamasqua.
Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow singles come in over 30 colors. You will notice that there is not a single neutral shade in my collection. Don't be fooled, though. I've swatched Illamasqua's neutral eyeshadows and they are amazing. Yet the shades that interest me the most are their brights. I can get high quality neutrals from a bunch of other brands. High quality matte reds, greens, pinks, teals… now that's a whole different story.

Illamasqua and I seem to be on the same page. Most of their eyeshadow offerings are mattes (a matte lover's paradise). Out of the seven shades that I own, I've yet to come across a dud. As always, the eyeshadow swatches above are done without primer. I won't go into a shade-by-shade review because the formula is consistent for all of these: super soft, very rich, saturated, and pigmented. The only shade that I found to be a tad powdery is CanCan but that is not rare amongst pale colors. Plus, it doesn't affect application.
The thing that I love the most about Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow singles is their consistency. There aren't that many reviews or swatches of their eyeshadows, specially of the more "out there" colors. I spent hours searching for swatches of Intense and only found one and it didn't even include a review. (Note: that was a year ago, there may be more now) However, since their eyeshadows aren't the "lottery type" (where in one order you can have an amazing shade and totally crappy one. MAC, I'm looking at you!) I feel confident enough to purchase an eyeshadow solely based on a promo pic and not even search for swatches. The colors always seem to be 100% true to pan.
A little shopping tip for any U.S. readers interested in Illamasqua: While Sephora does carry their eyeshadows, they don't offer all the shades. Shopping directly from Illamasqua might seem like a bad idea initially since you'd end up paying more thanks to the pound-dollar conversion, but if you browse their sale section you will find many permanent items with a huge discount (40-60% off). Use a promo code on top of that and you will be paying a lot less than you would have at Sephora.
If you want to see CanCan in action, have a look at this old Try It Out Thursday post. To see me using Sex (that sounds so strange), check out my latest makeup look.
