Try It Out Thursday: White Eyes, Pt.2

white eyeshadow liner makeup looks tutorial
Yes, it's back. After over seven months (!!!) my Try It Out Thursdays series has been revived. Seeing as it's been ages since my last TIOT post, I'm going to explain the concept again for my new readers. TIOT is a series where I try out or incorporate "unconventional" or less popular makeup products and techniques. Some of my previous posts in the series include: tape winged eye makeup, speckled eyeliner, the cut crease technique, duo chrome eyeshadows, red eyeliner, ombre lips, etc. I warn you though, those are really old posts, back when I took pictures with my phone.

In my last Try It Out Thursday (White Eyes Part 1), I focused on different ways to wear the color white on the eyes. The looks were mostly dramatic/creative/editorial and used white eyeliner. I promised that on my second installment I would include more "wearable"/neutral looks using white eyeshadow. I'm going to pick up right where I left off.

LOOK 1. Silver and White
Probably one of the easiest pairings. Since white is the lightest color, pairing it with black can result in a harsh contrast that is too dramatic for some. Silver and white make for a more harmonious, complementary pairing. Here I used the Bobbi Brown Mercury Cream Eyeshadow all over the lid and created a winged line with Lime Crime's Lunar Sea Liquid Eyeliner.

LOOK 2. Nude Eyes
For those who still find a full-on white eyeshadow to be too bold, try using a sheer shimmery white eyeshadow as a wash of color all over the lid. When paired up with brown eyeshadow on the crease, it gives the effect of a nude, barely there eye makeup.

LOOK 3. Highlighted Eyes
A white eyeshadow, especially if it's a shimmery one, can highlight the eyes and make them look bright and awake. For this look, I concentrated the white color on the inner corners and also lined my waterline with Palladio's White Pencil Eyeliner

LOOK 4. The 60's Eye
One of the most common uses for white eyeshadow is to create mod/60's inspired makeup looks. For this look I used a matte white eyeshadow from Illamasqua called Sex (yeaaah, I don't come up with the names). There's also a video tutorial for this look in case you want to see exactly how I created it.

I hope you enjoyed this post and were able to take some inspiration from it. If you have any suggestions for future Try It Out Thursday posts feel free to leave them below. Have a nice day!

  18. I only wish I were brave enough to pull off a look like this. The white goes so perfectly with your skin tone, it's gorgeous. On me, white just washes out my skin and makes me look even more pale. I might try experimenting though, it's nice to shake things up a little! xo

  28. I love this series of blog posts. I used to be a big fan of white eyeshadow because it would make a simple winged eyeliner look incredible but I haven't used it in a couple of years. I will have to hop back into the white eyeshadow bandwagon after seeing this post.
