I haven't gotten excited about a brand's Limited Edition collection in a long time. Ironically, the NARS Final Cut Collection had me lusting after a few items. I say ironically because this has been one of the most basic collections to come out in a long time. It includes a mixture of peach and pink lipsticks and blushes. While these colors are very safe and universally appealing, they're probably something everyone already has in their collection in some shape or form. Here's what I ended up getting…
The Final Cut Collection consists of four Satin Lip Pencils in variations of peach and pink hues. Each one comes with a corresponding blush color. The collection also includes a new shade of their skin Illuminator called Adelaine. After much "research" (looking at a bunch of reviews), I chose two of the Satin Lip Pencils, Descanso and Villa Lante, and one blush, Love.
Satin Lip Pencil in Descanso and Villa Lante, $25: I would describe Descanso as a beige peach. It's the type of color I go crazy for. Peaches are my weakness because I love them on warm skin tones. Villa Lante is a bright, blue-toned bubblegum pink. I had never tried NARS Satin Lip Pencils prior to this collection. I was expecting the formula to be similar to the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (or any pencil balm stains for that matter). The fact that they are balm-y and come in pencil packaging is where the similarities end. These are in a whole different ballpark. The Satin Lip Pencils are almost 100% opaque, they don't leave a stain behind, and are so incredibly silky that they glide across the lips without you having to apply any pressure.
Powder Blush in Love, $30: Love is Descanso's corresponding blush. As you can see from the swatches below, they're complementary but not as matchy-matchy as the other pairs in this collection. Love is a nude pink. It's very natural, subtle, and goes with any makeup look. I love the color and texture, but I dislike the fact that Love isn't as pigmented as other NARS blushes. It needs a lot of building up on my skin tone (NC30). This is not only time consuming, but it also means you'll use it up faster. And this is a $30 blush we're talking about. I'm positive that Love wouldn't even show up on anything above NC/NW 35. This was a let down.
For me, the stand outs were the Satin Lip Pencils. I really like both colors and have been wearing them often. Let me know if you picked up anything from this collection. It's exclusive to certain department stores so, for example, it's only sold at Nordstrom's in the U.S. and Selfridges in the U.K.
