The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is a product I've featured on my blog a few times. At the time of photographing this post, the shade Addis Ababa was only my second Lip Cream. I now own five and will review the rest in a future blog post. Needless to say, I love these. However, Addis Ababa is my least favorite shade but I have a suspicion as to why that is...
About the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams: These products are matte liquid lipsticks which means they apply like a lipgloss but dry to a matte finish that doesn't transfer. I don't find them drying but since they do give an ultra matte finish, I highly suggest using a lip scrub prior or skipping them entirely if you suffer from dry/chapped lips. They are long-wearing and don't crack or flake like other liquid lipsticks do.
Why is this my least favorite Lip Cream? I found Addis Ababa to be a little different than the rest of my Lip Creams. It's not as creamy, nor is it nearly as pigmented as the rest. It also feels a little powdery even (as if it has dried out). You can tell from the swatches that it just doesn't pack a punch. However, I think I know the reason why. I picked this up at Ulta (it was my first visit to Ulta and it was quite a disappointing one, actually) and grabbed the first one in its row. That's very unlike me, I usually pick products from the back because the front one is always tampered with. Specially when it doesn't come sealed. I think people were using this as a tester because my other Lip Creams are richer in texture and more pigmented. This feels like those mascaras you've had for way too long, they just don't perform like they did in the beginning.
Who knows, maybe Addis Ababa is the dud of the line, but I really believe I picked up a dried out "tester". I ordered my other Lip Creams online so I know for sure that they were "fresh" and untampered with. LOL. Rant over.
Do you love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams too? Have you tried any liquid lipsticks?
