Romantic and Soft Purple Smokey Eyes

mac sketch parfait amour smokey eye makeup tutorial look
Here's a little fun fact about today's makeup look. This look was meant to be a part of my Valentine's Day series (consisting of an Anti-Valentine's Olive Green Makeup Look, a Rose Smokey Eye ft. the Naked 3 Palette, a Classic Bombshell Look, and a Post Valentine's Pamper Session). Something happened during February that prevented me from publishing this on time. I'm not being purposely mysterious, I promise. That "something" probably means I was busy that week and fell off my blogging schedule. Still, I'm pretty proud of myself for publishing 4 V-Day related posts. Without further ado, here's the post that has been sitting in my drafts for a few weeks over a month.

ombre bitten korean ulzzang lips
My goal was to present you with very different makeup looks for Valentine's. One was a deep olive smokey eye, one consisted of rose tones and a nude lip, and the other was a bold combination of winged liner and red lips. This look sits kind of in the middle. There's color and shimmer on the eyes, but in a soft-smokey way. There isn't any eyeliner work, ideal for those who struggle with it or simple prefer understated makeup. The lips are also somewhere in the middle. I incorporated the ombre/korean-bitten-ulzzang lip because I think it's playfully sexy. It's also great for special occasions because it wears off flatteringly.

I did this look so long ago that I don't remember all the products I used, just the main ones. (God knows which foundation I used. I should really start writing things down.) Here are those I remember:

Step 1: I started by using a shimmery base (MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Let's Skate). I did this to prolong the wear of my eyeshadows and add some pretty iridescence to the eyes.
Step 2: Who knows why I started with my crease (I usually start with the lid or brow bone) but that's the order in which I photographed it. Anyway, I blended a light brown eyeshadow (Wedge from MAC) on my crease and outer 'V'.
Step 3: I patted a light purple shade on the lid (MAC Parfait Amour). I also blended a very light beige color underneath my brows (MAC Orb, not shown).
Step 4: I took a dark matte purple and created a sideways elongated 'V' shape on the outer corners of my eye. I used Sketch from MAC.
Step 5: In order to make my eyes look bigger, I used a nude eyeliner (MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20) on the waterline.
Step 6: I finished the eyes with mascara on my top and bottom lashes. I used Jordana's Best Lash Extreme.

The ombre lips were achieved by erasing my lip color with the foundation that was left over on my foundation brush and then applying a hot pink lip color in the middle (Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Showy). The blush I'm wearing is the MAC Cremeblend Blush in So Sweet, So Easy.

  21. I really like this look! Both the eyes and lips are lovely. I think the eye look could probably be created using the Naked 3 palette as well which is great for people who don't have those MAC shades.

  38. Sooo stunning! I love the purples, so smokey, so feminine and so easy to wear! I think I really might need some shades to recreate something like this. Your lippie is just so lovely, I didn't think you used a revlon balm but that's awesome what you did!

  39. Beautiful look! Do your lips maintain the ombre effect over the course of the day? Curious.

    1. You have to reply it in the center the same way you would a regular lipstick (in about 4-5 hours). Unless you use a stain then that lasts really really long xx

  40. Oooooh. I love the eye look that you created! It's super pretty! Not too bold, yet not too light. I think I can sport this as an everyday look :)
