Last month I was able to spot some matte nail polish top coats while perusing the isles at the drugstore. At one point I thought these were only available from salon brands like OPI, Essie, and Orly but I was very happy to see that both Revlon and L'Oreal have their own versions (although L'Oreal's is limited edition and I haven't seen it again since). Read on to see how I've been incorporating mattes and spring pastels.
The first pairing consists of an off-white color from Bettina called Marshmallow. On the left is what the nail polish looks like regularly with no top coat. On the right is how it looks like topped with the L'Oreal Colour Riche The Magic Top Coats in Matte Velvet ($7). For the second pairing I chose a pale bubblegum pink, also from Bettina, which is called Cotton Candy. Again, the left picture shows its regular finish and the right side shows how it looks with the Revlon Matte Top Coat ($5).
Matte nails may not be for everyone, but I really love them. They also look amazing with darker nail polish colors like black and burgundy. The downside is that matte top coats make nail polish chip a bit faster (specially Revlon's) and the porous surface is more prone to dirt and scratches.
Have you ever rocked a matte nail?
