Going Natural

Although I'm not wearing any makeup in this picture, the "going natural" I'm referring to is my hair! You have no idea all that my hair has been through in the past 2 years (let me fill you in: ombre, chocolate brown, ombre again, ash brown, blonde, dark brown). It took such a toll on my hair that it used to feel stringy, rubbery, and horrible. I vowed to let my natural hair color grow out and stop using heat tools. I went from straightening my hair once a week to only doing it once a month (or less). My hair has recovered tremendously although it still has some ways to go. Here are the products that have helped its recovery process.

best hair products fine frizzy wavy curly hair natural haircare hair phyto desert essence caudalie hydrating day cream coconut soft curls cream divine oil
For reference, I have fine, frizzy, and color treated hair. It's naturally wavy.

01. Phyto 7 Hydrating Day Cream, $28: I bought this solely because Lisa Eldridge mentioned it in her airplane beauty routine video. It also had good reviews. It's supposed to be a moisturizer for your hair. I found that it improved the condition of my hair with regular use (although I think it's more effective when applied to damp hair). I have now run out of this completely. However, I don't think I will be repurchasing this as I am quite shocked at how little amount it comes with. It's simply out of my budget right now.

02. Desert Essence Coconut Soft Curls Hair Cream, $10: I bought this after Patricia recommended it on her blog. She said it helped her curls maintain their shape and resist frizz even under humid weather. I totally agree! I've tried styling products that hold and shape curls longer than this, but they leave a lot of residue. This is very lightweight and has no silicones.

03. Caudalie Divine Oil 100 ml, $49: This product was a total gamble. The full size was on sale on Feelunique's website plus I had a discount on top of that. I ordered it blindly because I had always wanted to try it and didn't want to pass up the deal, but I suggest getting a small size first to see if you like it (Sephora sells a 0.05 oz size for $9). Thankfully, I loved it. It's amazing at softening my hair (and legs! I don't like it on my face though). It makes my hair manageable and controls frizz. It's much more lightweight than Moroccanoil and the Josie Maran Argan Oil so it doesn't weigh my fine hair down.

What are your must-have hair products? What are your hair's particular needs?

    1. Yes, you have to be patient. Even if you're tempted to mess with it, wait it out.

  4. You look lovely! If you don't already you could also towel dry your hair and leave it to dry naturally after washing rather than using a hairdryer X

    1. I do! :) I hate hairdryers because I find them hard to use, haha. So if anything I'll just use the straightening iron and no hair dryer beforehand.

  15. You are a natural beauty. I'm so glad you're still liking the Desert Esscence Curl Cream. I've found something that I like better but it contains silicones... it's the Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream! you get A LOT of product for the price and it makes my hair even prettier than the desert essence one! xo

    1. That's awesome! I'm saying away from silicones (in haircare) so I don't think it would be for me. x

  16. You look beautiful without makeup! Your skin is so even and healthy. Your hair is also very lovely. From what I can tell in the picture we have very similar hair except mine is thick. It's such a pain with color treated wavy hair, my hair had gone through a lot as well but thankfully I now have my natural hair. :-) Haven't tried any of the products but I'll definitely be picking up the Desert Essence one when my hair is a bit longer do define my waves/curls.
