Review: Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer

I had been looking for a radiance and glow boosting primer, something to wear on those days when I didn't feel like going matte (which are rare to be honest, but they still happen). Since the Radiance Foundation Primer ($20) is one of Laura Mercier's most popular products, I decided to go with that. I bought the smallest travel size just in case I didn't like it. Although there's always exchanging or blog sales, this was a smaller hit to my wallet. Laura's primers are pretty pricey after all (first name basis).

It's gosh darn near impossible to capture the small shimmer in this primer without a proper camera lens and photography knowledge (at least for me). So I'm not even gonna try. The swatch above is as good as it gets. So I suggest swatching this in person in order to decide whether it's too much shimmer for your personal taste. Now, I already knew this had some shimmer because I had read reviews, but I was expecting it to give me something... more, not just tiny glitter particles on my face. So, I do think the Radiance Primer is nice. It blends amazingly well, feels lightweight, and prolongs the wear of my foundation by a few hours. However, it doesn't add any glow or dew, it's just glitter. And don't get me wrong, it's very pretty glitter. It's refined, subtle but not invisible, and mostly noticeable in sunlight. It's just not what I was looking for. If you are looking for a primer to add glow and radiance without shimmer (something that will make a matte foundation dewy on those days when your skin feels dry, for example) then I highly recommend the Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer

A few last words: this primer acts very similarly to the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer in the sense that it adds subtle shimmer (although the L'Oreal Magic Lumi has more pearlessence). I personally feel like the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer looks more natural/subtle on my medium complexion because of its peach tint. However, if you are very pale the L'Oreal Magic Lumi might be a better (and cheaper) alternative.

Have you tried any of the primers mentioned in this post? What's your favorite radiance primer?

  1. I loved it underneath the liquid foundation. Gives kind of bronzed look but you can't see the shimmer once you apply foundation over it.

    1. Since it's a bit lighter than my skin tone it didn't really bronze me but I can totally see it having that effect on fairer skin tones xx

    1. On the face the shimmer is subtle, but the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfectors are more subtle I think xx

  6. It looks like a very interesting primer, I didn't expect it to be so tinted on the swatch! Is it just a tint or does it actually have coverage? The glittery part however doesn't sound very good, I'm into shimmery and luminous but glitter isn't what I'm looking for either!

    1. I don't feel like it adds coverage, maybe a slight slight tint. Like a very sheer tinted moisturizer, or even less than that xx

  8. Not tried any of them, shame when an expensive product doesn't perform the way you want it to.

  9. I haven't tried any of the primers but the few Laura Mercier products I've tried I haven't enjoyed too much. The most expensive was the tinted moisturizer that a Sephora employee talked me into getting. It wasn't bad but it wasn't worth the price whatsoever. The concealer was a bit too creamy and would crease on me. :\ Plus again it was so expensive for the amount you're getting.

    1. Girl, don't worry! It's a bad representation of LM products, in my opinion. I hated the Tinted Moisturizer and I know a lot of people who did too. It was so oily!! I sold it in a blog sale, not suitable for my skin type.

  12. Thanks for this review! It was very helpful. No one (I think) likes glitter on their faces! You know, I had grabbed that Korres primer last time I was on the states and had it in my Sephora basket for a while but then at the end I decided not to purchase it. Next time I go, I'll definitely grab it. Thanks! XO
