Spotlight: Korres Face Primers

During the later months of 2013 I went on a little discovery journey of Korres products. I know their Lip Butters are their most popular products but I've actually never tried them (although I'm a fan of their Lip Butter Glazes). I've stuck mostly to their skincare because I enjoy the fact that their products are free of parabens, mineral oil, and silicones. (P.S. While I enjoy silicone in makeup, it's a big no-no for me when it comes to hair and skin care.) Yet I managed to venture into their primers. In case you were wondering about their foundation primers or where in the market for a new face primer, here's an overview of their offerings.

Korres currently offers four different face primers (At the time of writing this post. This has since changed and some have been discontinued). All of them come packaged in their signature toothpaste-like tube. I adore this type of packaging because it's hygienic, travel friendly, and allows you to use every last drop of product. Their four primers are the: Pomegranate Mattifying Primer, Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer, Quercetin & Oak Anti-Ageing Primer, and original Face Primer. Out of the four I have tried three. Here are my thoughts…

01. Original Korres Face Primer (not shown), $28: This is the only one I've never actually purchased and only tried via sample. This primer contains Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil, and Edelweiss flower extract. It's a very lightweight primer that absorbs quickly. It does extend the wear time of my foundation and it's a nice primer overall, but it falls into the crack of those good-but-not-my-favorite products. It's basic primer, that's all. The selling point for most would be its ingredients, I presume.

02. Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer, $30: Out of the three primers this one is my favorite. I feel like it's the most innovative primer of the bunch and it meets all of its claims. You know that coveted dewy-glowy, youthful look that a bunch of primers try to give us but instead they just deliver a bunch of shimmer? Well, not this. The Nourishing Primer delivers glow in the form of dewiness, not a speck of glitter can be found in this primer. Of course, that's an oily skin's nightmare. For dry skin, though, I feel like this primer could be a game-changer.

03. Quercetin & Oak Anti-Ageing Primer, $33: Also called the Age-reversing Primer (no idea why it has two names), this was my least favorite of the bunch. Not even that, I hated it so much that I returned it. First of all, this primer felt greasier than any I've ever tried. Secondly, once it starts to set it has the tendency of balling up or peeling a bit. Even if you pick off the peels, once you apply your foundation on top they start to develop again. In other words: hot mess.

To sum up my experience with Korres primers: liked the Original a lot, loved the Nourishing one, and hated the Ant-Ageing. There are two last things I want to mention. 1) Seeing as none of these contain silicone, they're thin in consistency and will not give you that slick feeling that silicone primers do. This can be good or bad depending on your preference. 2) All of these have a strong scent, specially the Anti-Ageing Primer. Korres claims not to use synthetic fragrances and the scent does not linger after application, but I'm sure it's something that could irritate sensitive skins.

Seriously, you must try the Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer if you have dry skin or normal skin that is looking for some glow. It changes the finish of any foundation to a dewy/dewier one. If you have normal/combination skin, it's a very versatile primer to own. Instead owning several foundations with different finishes, you could simply adjust the finish using this primer to suit that day's particular need. You could do this with a mattifying primer too, but I feel like those are much more common in the beauty market. Whenever you buy luminizing primers, they are usually shimmery or pearly. To me, the absence of shimmer is what sets the Nourishing Primer apart.

Let me know if face primers are part of your regular routine. Also, have you tried any Korres products?

  12. The Greek Yoghurt primer sounds great. I currently have a tube of the mattifying primer waiting to be used (I'm just waiting to finish up some products). I recently found their Evening Primrose Eye Cream at TJ Maxx and so far I've been loving it! You must try their lip butters! The pomegranate lip butter was the first Korres product I ever tried and it is amazing. :-) Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Haha, I haven't tried those but I do love their Lip Butter Glazes. What don't you like about the Lip Butters? I know so many people rave about them so I want to see a differing opinion. I'm not interested in them either way because they come in pots :/
