Packing a punch: MAC Azalea Blush

mac azalea blush swatch review
Spoiler: This will be a negative review. Don't worry, it has nothing to do with the color. I'm not a neutrals purist. The color is actually what attracted me to Azalea ($17 for refill pan). Azalea is an ultra bright fuchsia (cool toned hot pink) which looks beautiful on medium to deep skin tones. It's also gorgeous on pale skin, but be sure to only lightly tap your brush in the blush (no swirling or you will pick up too much product).

Now, here's the issue. Azalea is incredibly pigmented. What you see in the pan is what you get, and that's great. However, the texture is dry, stiff, and hard to blend. I have to use a separate dense face brush just to blend the edges. It reminds me of the e.l.f. Studio Blush in Pink Passion which is dry and chalky except that it blends better than Azalea! And it's not like MAC can't produce great bright matte blushes, just have a look at Rhubarb (one of my all-time favorites). I don't know what happened here, but this blush is a dud. Do not recommend!

Let me know if you know of a blush that looks like this but has a nice formulation.

  10. I think this is why I don't buy from MAC too much anymore- the quality seems all over the place! This is a crazy gorgeous cheek color though- it's a shame it isn't easier to blend because I'd probably be all over this!

  12. Oh no such a shame that this is such an awful formula because the color looks goooooorgeous on you Coco!! I wish I knew of something else similar… surely NARS has something? They seem to make some pretty bright colors :)

  19. It's a pity the formulation is a letdown because it definitely packs a punch and looks so exciting in the pan!
