Marc Jacobs Supercharged Genius Gel Foundation

marc genius gel supercharged foundation review swatch beige light nc30
Last year (a.k.a. a very long time ago) I wrote a post reviewing several foundation samples I had picked up from Sephora. My intention was choosing a new foundation to purchase during the Sephora 20% off sale. The winner was this: the Marc Jacobs Supercharged Genius Gel  Oil-Free Foundation ($48)

The coverage of this foundation is light and can be built up to medium. It's very similar in consistency to the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum except the Marc Jacobs Genius Gel is thinner. It's also similar to Healthy Mix Serum in finish. It has a satin-luminous finish and is just a tad more matte than Healthy Mix. It makes my skin look very natural and healthy. It starts to get shiny on me after 4-5 hours (depending on the weather). As a reference, I'm an NC30 in MAC. I got this in the shade 32 Beige Light which would be suitable for NC30-NC35. Also, keep in mind that the bottle is frosted glass so the shade looks lighter than it actually is.

I think this foundation is amazing! If you like the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, you will love this too. Why would you need to pick this up over the HMS considering it's much pricier? Well, it's a bit more matte which helps improve the wear time for those who live in humid weather like me. Also, it has much more shades available. Seriously, the shade selection for Bourjois foundations is a joke.

I highly recommend this for dry/normal skin. I don't think it's suitable for very oily skin because gel formulas tend to slip and slide on those skin types. But, foundations can surprise you so I advise you to always try and get a sample beforehand.

Have you tried the Genius Gel Foundation too? Do the products from the Marc Jacobs cosmetics line catch your eye?

  1. Your skin looks great without foundation anyway but I really love how this foundation looks on you, Coco. It makes it look super smooth and healthy =D

  2. You have great skin, I think this just enhanced it! I agree with you on Bourjois shade range, I never purchased a foundation from Bourjois as all of them are too dark for me. I really want to try out Marc Jacobs blushes but sadly the beauty range is only available in certain countries :/

  4. The bottle is absolutely gorgeous although not sure I could get on board with a light coverage, especially for that price! x

    1. I don't equate coverage with price because low or high coverage don't pertain to quality for me, it's more of a preference. I'm picky about texture and lasting power but I understand your point of view xx

  6. I tried a sample of this a few months back and was really pleased with how well the color matched me- I always have issues matching shades to my skin tone, but the foundation wasn't a high enough coverage for me so I didn't purchase the full size.

  8. Man, this foundation looks really impressive! I definitely lean more towards oily skin, so I don't think this will work too well on me. I have to stick with my MUFE Mat Velvet + in the summer!

  14. Thanks for the fabulous review! I wish this would work wonderfully for me, I tend to have oily skin! Maybe this will be a foundation to try in the winter... its uber pricey though so I'm not sure if I will do that!

  20. I recently picked this up as well and I love it! For me the coverage seems better, for whatever reason, as I would probably describe this as more light-medium. I absolutely love the way this feels on my skin, it's almost like I'm not wearing anything at all.

  21. This looks so fresh and lovely on your skin! I got a sample of this a while back and haven't tested it out yet. I must! It might be a bit too hydrating for my oily skin, but it's worth a try :)
