NYX Blush in Taupe: Review and Comparisons

nyx taupe blush review
Andrea chucked this into my basket when we were at IMATS a few months ago. Her words were "you need this". I'm glad she did that because NYX Taupe Blush ($5) has been on my wish list for ages. It wasn't a priority purchase because I own a lot of bronzers and contour powders but I'm happy to own it now.

Taupe has a very soft buttery texture. The finish is matte/satin. It's easy to blend and really pigmented. It's cool-toned which is great for fair complexion and pink undertones. It's also good on warm complexions (since it mimics a real shadow) but you have to be a bit more careful if you're warm-toned because some cool contours can look dirty. Since Taupe is darker than Illamasqua Hollow and not as grey, I think it looks great on my NC30 skintone (I hated Hollow, it's too light).

The verdict-- I love it. I was unsure it would work on me since I have a warm medium skin tone and get more tan during the summer but it ended up being dark enough. If you are looking for a cool-toned contouring powder/matte bronzer here are my suggestions:

For fair-light skin tones: Illamasqua Hollow Cream Pigment
For light-medium skin tones: NYX Taupe Blush
For tan-deep skin tones: MAC Shadowy Shaping Powder

  1. Taupe looks like the prefect contouring powder! It is ironically always out of stock EVERYWHERE! Will definitely grab it as and when it reappears!

    1. Yes, it's a bit hard to get. Just like the JEP in Milk, they're too popular. x

  2. You've reminded me to pull mine out. I've had Taupe for years but never really gave it much thought since I thought it looked dirty on my warm toned skin. I'm going to give it another crack! x

  6. This looks gorgeous and a colour that's certainly right up my street, I've not seen a NYX counter locally, there is one but it's about an hour away so next time I'm around one, I must pick up some things from the brand.

  10. I can never find Taupe in my local drugstores! Your swatch of Too Faced Chocolate Soleil is gorgeous though and I am now tempted to purchase that instead.

  11. I keep looking at this and wasn't sure if it would show up on my skin as I'm quite tanned at the moment. Sounds like I should give it a go now though! x

  15. I definitely heard a lot of good things about this from other bloggers, but for the most part they are much lighter than I am so it's nice to hear that this worked for you (I think we have similar skin tone) - definitely will be looking for this now.

  19. I love the texture of NYX blushes and this one sounds like no exception- I must give it a peek! I'm still curious about Illamasqua Hollow, though- think my skin might be fair enough for it to work! xo

  21. CVS has a buy one get 50% off deal for drugstore brands like Revlon and others. Not for L'Oreal or NYX though, sadly.
