Spotlight: Hourglass Face Primers

hourglass face foundation primers n28 serum mineral veil comparison
I wrote a spotlight post on KORRES primers where I reviewed all of the primers I had tried from that brand. Now it's Hourglass's turn. If I'm not mistaken, they only offer two primers in their line right now. I got the travel sizes of both so I could try them out and decide which one I liked best. Plus, they're really expensive and I didn't feel like splurging on a full size. So which do I prefer, the Mineral Veil Primer or the N.28 Primer?

Thankfully, the Mineral Veil Primer and N.28 Primer Serum are very different. Deciding between the two of them will be pretty easy and the choice will depend on your skin type or texture preference.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer SPF 15 ($18 for 0.33 oz, $52 for 1 oz): I see myself purchasing a full size once this bottle runs out. I adore this primer. It absorbs quickly and greatly improves the texture of your skin. If you already have a favorite foundation that makes your skin look amazing, wearing the Mineral Veil Primer underneath will make it look super amazing. This primer doesn't mattify (at least not for me). It definitely extends the wear of my foundation but I mostly consider it a texture improving primer. It contains silicone but maybe in less amount because it feels thin and absorbs really quickly.

Hourglass N.28 Primer Serum ($22 for 0.33 oz, $65 for 1 oz): The texture of this primer is very different from the Mineral Veil. The Mineral Veil feels like a thin lotion while the N.28 feels thicker and more slippery. It contains silicone so it feels like a silicon primer would. Silicone primers are great for dry skin, but I know many people don't like how they feel on the face. I generally prefer non-silicone primers, but I found the N.28 to be more lightweight (and therefore more tolerable) as compared to the Smashbox PhotoReady Primer. Still, the Mineral Veil is even lighter in texture and does not feel like a silicone primer after it has set on the face. The N.28 is marketed as a serum because it contains essential oils, lipid plant oils, and vitamins (28 in total, hence the name).

Bottom line: I like both of them. Both make your foundation look extra amazing. However, I'm not big on silicone primer feeling so the Mineral Veil was a clear winner. It contains silicone but does not feel like it to me.

    1. I agree. The travel size comes with 1 oz anyway which is the usual amount for primers or foundation. x

  13. I purchased a full size of the Mineral Veil primer and I love it. My only problem is that if I'm not careful (I use too much/my skin is really terrible), then it can catch on minor skin flakes around my mouth. Otherwise, it's freaking awesome. x

  14. Ooooh, I've heard lots of good things about the Mineral Veil primer! I had a deluxe sample but I gave it away to my sister 'cause that glue smell was putting me off. But I kinda regret that since I saw how much everyone loves it afterwards u_____u
