Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful

A few months ago I won a giveaway hosted by Chaitra from the blog Pink Pot. The prize was a Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush ($26) in the color of my choice. I chose Blissful and the sweet Chaitra sent it to me right away. Go visit her blog, now! This is actually my third Amazonian Clay Blush but also my only one. I sold my first two in a blog sale last year. So, have my feelings about the formula changed?

In a nutshell, I think the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes are good but there's room for improvement. They are very soft in texture. The texture is very good, it isn't powdery or chalky. The pigmentation is semi-opaque and you can build them up to get a true-to-pan color. I can tell why a lot of fair skinned women love this blush formula. It goes on like a whisper, never too much and it's very hard to overdo. However, anyone with a tan to deep skin tone will have to spend time layering this. Alternatively, you can use a very dense blush to apply this with more concentration.

My biggest issue with this blush formula is that it develops a film on top after several uses. All of my previous Amazonian Clay Blushes had it and this one has it too. The blush becomes difficult to swatch once this film has formed and you need to swirl your brush around a few more times to get product on it. I don't know what causes this, something in the formula I suppose. I keep my brushes very clean so I know that isn't a factor, plus my other blushes don't behave this way. I've seen fellow beauty lovers experience this with the Tarte Blushes as well as Bourjois and Sleek blushes. The common solution is to scrape off the top layer periodically, but this is tedious and wastes product.

I adore the color Blissful and enjoy the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes but I consider NARS, MAC Mineralize, and Illamasqua blushes to be better.

What has been your experience with the Tarte 12-Hour Amazonian Clay Blushes?

  2. Such a lovely color on you. Too bad about the film! I've had this happen with one of my Bourjois blushes too, it's like it becomes impossible to get onto my brush. hah

  3. Blissful is my favourite from this range! Such a pretty colour on you. I agree about the formula, though- the film is very annoying!

  4. Ah, so maybe that's why a lot of people say that even though they use their Tarte blush/es often, the design on it doesn't seem to fade away. Looks good on you though! Blissful is one of those shades that I'm always debating on whether I should get or not.

  7. I'm the same, I find them good but not amazing and not deserving the hype they get.

  10. I coveted one of these blushes for ages so when a friend visited America she brought Blissful back for me. I love the colour but mine has also developed the film making it so difficult to use :( xx

    1. Buff a little bit of the top layer with a paper towel. It wastes product but it helps x

  13. Wow, been so out of the blogging loop and finally getting back into the mojo of it. Your blog is looking so great! Amazing to see how much it has grown!
Your smokey eye is amazing in this post!
I only have 1 tarte blush and i agree, i have to layer it on quite a bit for it to show. I have the one in exposed so it's meant to be quite natural anyway but I usually like my blush a bit heavier.

  14. i picked up my first tarte blush (tipsy) when i got to the US a few weeks ago and to be honest, for the amount people rave about them i was a bit let down by it at first. i was expecting them to be just like NARS blushes but they really are a lot more sheer than i expected based on all the hype, but i guess that suits me better anyway because i'm really pale. while i like the one i bought, i haven't exactly rushed out to buy another just because they're only a few dollars cheaper than NARS blushes and i do like the NARS ones better.
