YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in 02 Frivole and 09 Epicurien

The other item I picked up on my mini Saks haul was a YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush ($40) in 02 Rose Frivole. I ended up loving this formula and got a second color, 09 Rose Epicurien. Originally, I had the shade 01 Fuchsia Desinvolte on my wish list after falling in love with it thanks to Temptalia's swatches. At the last minute, I changed my mind and went with the subtle everyday shades that I could get more use out of. Still, I'd pick up Fuchsia Desinvolte if I could. I might have to hint at it for Christmas. :D

Texture
This is definitely the standout characteristic of this product. The unique texture feels like a cross between jelly stains (like Benefit's Chacha Tint or Becca's Beach Tints) and a mousse blush (like YSL's own Creme de Blush).
Application
The Baby Doll Kiss & Blush apply very easily. They're thin and emollient making blending a breeze (even with fingers which tug at the skin more than brushes). They are also fairly comfortable on the lips, but they do not disguise dryness. They have a slight sheen.
Pigmentation
The Baby Doll Kiss & Blush are a somewhat sheer so they provide a blushing-from-within stain look (like jelly tints or asian tints do). They look really natural, although they looked a bit more vivid in real life as opposed to the pictures above. Photographing in front a window always washes out my blush.
Packaging
The design is gorgeous and I was really surprised when I first held these in my hand by how heavy they felt. The cap is heavy and so is the glass bottom. I think this is good because you are paying premium bucks for these. I remember being very disappointed when I first held an Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder because it felt (not looked) light, plastic, and cheap.

So, to the dismay of beauty lovers' wallets, I adore this and think you should get one if you're able/willing to fork out the money for it.

  2. These two shades look really gorgeous, I can image getting a ton of wear out of them on both cheeks and lips. The formula sounds great, though I know some people have mixed opinions about these! I still haven't given these a swatch irl, but for now they're out of my budget!

  7. Rose Frivole is stunning! Most of the time, multifunctional products do one thing better than the other but this looks like it could work as either and really well too!

  17. They look so gorgeous on you. The product was a complete fail on me ( although I still have rose/nude insolent and will use it because I have it). They slipped around..felt way too siliconey and the one that I really loved ( mocha garconne) changed colour within a few hours of application . But Im glad its not the same for everyone, because you are rocking these!

  29. Hi, I'm not sure if you still check this blog but 1. you're gorgeous and these shades look awesome!! and 2. Can you tell me what you mean by jelly tints and asian tints? and where to buy them? I have been scouring the earth looking for products that will just give my lips a flush of color as if i rubbed watermelon on them or ate a lollipop, haha, similar to Rachel McAdam's look in Wedding Crashers. Anyways hope to hear back from you, thanks!!

    1. Thank you so much <3 Sorry for the late reply! Asian tints are a product that is a cheek/lip multipurpose item that has a liquid/gel consistency. They are very popular in Asia because natural looks, flushed rosy cheeks, and ombre lips are big trends there. You can get original Asian jelly tint products from eBay, Sephora has started carrying Asian brands recently, Amazon, worldwide retailers that sell Asian cosmetics such as Kollection K (I've purchased from them, the service is good). Those products will definitely get you that flushed lollipop/just ate a popsicle look :) I recommend the brands Tony Moly and Etude House although there are many other good ones.

If you'd rather buy a product you can see in person first, you can try the Tints (such as ChaCha Tint) from the brand Benefit which you can buy at Sephora, Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. (or any department store if you don't live in the United States).

      Hope that helps <3
