Last Minute Halloween Costume: Pointillism

last minute budget makeup halloween costume art painting pointillism
Did you get invited to a last minute Halloween party? Are you on a tight budget and don't want to buy any additional products in order to dress up? Or maybe you just can't be bothered. Here's an easy look you can create with products you already have in your makeup collection. All you're going to need is a few different shades of neutral eyeliners or cream eyeshadow pencils: white, beige, brown, and black. That's it!

Here's a little background info on this first... Pointillism is a painting technique that branched from Impressionism. It was developed in the 19th century and consists of small dot patterns that create an image. Ideally, you would wear this makeup to a party where people could identify or appreciate traditional art techniques. Otherwise you'll be explaining your costume repeatedly throughout the night.

Here are the steps I followed to achieve this look:
1. I order to remove redness and cover blemishes I applied a layer of my NARS Sheer Glow Foundation.
2. I started shading my face with dots. I used the darker colors in the places where I would normally contour (shadowy areas like underneath the cheekbones, sides of the face, under the lips, etc.) and lighter colors in highlighted areas (bridge of the nose, forehead, and so on). The white pencil is the Jordana Made To Last in Eternal White, the beige pencil is Milani ShadowEyez in Almond Cream, the medium brown is Cafe Au Lait, the dark brown is Espresso Line, and the black is Black Ink. I also used a lip liner over my lips.
3. To finish the look I simply added some mascara. I would advise against using false lashes because ideally you want to look as "flat" as possible, like a painting.

  14. Haha, it's like polka dotted highlighting and contouring! ;) This was a great idea. I could see it pairing really well with a flowy white gown. Hope you had an awesome Halloween!
