Review: Rimmel Stay Blushed in Apricot Glow

I got this product several months ago after seeing it featured in a few blogs but hadn't gotten around to reviewing it because I find it a bit ordinary. It does have some positive qualities, one of which would be it's affordable price. I simply wasn't blown away. The product I'm talking about is the Rimmel Stay Blushed! Liquid Cheek Tint in Apricot Glow ($3).

My biggest gripe with this product is its lack of pigmentation. Sheerness can be a good quality for fair skin tones or when it comes to vibrant colors. However, I feel like it's unnecessary with such a light color like this one, specially on my medium skin tone which lead me to applying several layers.
I find the packaging to be practical and functional but also plain and ugly. Considering it cost around $3, it's something I can overlook.

Moving on to the formula, I would describe it as an airy whipped paste. It's not as thin as gel/liquid blushes such as the Becca Beach Tints or Benefit ChaCha Tint. It feels more like the Make Up For Ever HD Blushes (the ones in the pump bottle) except less silicone-y. Oddly enough the Rimmel Stay Blushed! looks really gross when you dispense it. Sometimes it separates and reminds me of cottage cheese (particularly after the first few uses). Regardless, it blends nicely and the wear time is fine.

The final verdict is that I like them but just can't love the Stay Blushed. Neither the formula nor the colors are particularly exciting. Regardless of the low price, it's not something I would repurchase because I rarely ever reach for this.

Have you tried it too? What did you think?

  1. I have the highlighter versions of these I think, and I actually love them as the pigmentation for a highlighter is perfect. I prefer powder blushes though as it's easier to build up colour.

  2. I actually think this looks gorgeous on you! Might try it myself for days at uni, or you could try it on top of benefit Majorette blush!

  3. I personally like it for the pricing but I agree it looks weird when squeezed out! x

  4. I have never tried these and dunno how well I would get on with liquid blushers, they seem a bit messy to me. I do like the shade you have here but its a shame the pigmentation is lacking once applied to the skin x

  7. I usually love Rimmel products, but I tested this blush in Superdrug once and I thought the same about the pigmentation. They are too sheer and felt like it needed a lot of building up to achieve the desired look. So I passed on it. x

  9. Do you think it would blend just as well on dry skin? I love the color on you, btw :)

  10. I've seen some ladies who really enjoy this but I'm not keen on picking it up because I love my powders! It looks perfect on your slightly tanned complexion though!

  11. I love the shade of this, so disappointing that it isn't very pigmented! I do like the packaging though, more hygienic than others!

  14. Interesting product, even though you mentioned you've seen it on other blogs I actually haven't seen it anywhere before! It's a shame you don't like it though, I still think it looks good on you!

  16. I heard about this product on Lisa Eldridge's video with Alexa Chung. It looked great on application but I didn't think it would last very long (especially on skin that isn't dry/normal)

  18. I have a huge thing for cream blushes, but the reviews are kind of mixed, and even though they're a low price point, I have lots of other blushes that I really enjoy, no need to pick up something that may not be that great.

  19. I love the color but I do not own that very many blushes cause I honestly seldom use them. I can´t use foundation cause I have yet to find one that does not break me out and I find that using blushes on my bare skin does not look that very good :/
Shame that the formula is a bit odd cause it is a really pretty color :)

  20. Hmm I've been wanting to try these, but the sheerness doesn't sound too up my alley. The colour is really pretty though!

  22. I've never thought to use a liquid blush before! This color is not meant for my (very pale, cool toned) skin, but I'm interested in the texture. And for $3, it's not exactly breaking the bank.

I always appreciate an honest review. Thanks for keeping your readers' best interests at heart!

  23. It looks really pretty on you, and since they are so cheap I feel like I have to try them anyway. This, of course, has nothing to do with makeup hoarding tendencies.
