Maybelline Color Tattoo in Chocolate Suede

I have featured a fair share of Maybelline Color Tattoos on my blog and I generally enjoy their formula. The color I will be reviewing today is from their Leather Color Tattoos Collection. I believe all of the shades from this collection will be added to the permanent range. I purchased this particular color, Chocolate Suede ($5), months ago but I still see it whenever I visit local drugstores.

Sadly, this color is a miss for me. Chocolate Suede doesn't behave like my other Color Tattoos do. In general, the matte shades are a bit drier than the metallic/satins, but so far all of my non-mattes had performed exactly the same. They were creamy, long lasting, and applied easily. Chocolate Suede goes on patchy and needs layering. The eyeshadow can still be worked with by covering it with powder eyeshadow and using it as a cream base. For me it's an issue because I like to wear these by themselves sometimes.

The reviews I've seen of this product have been generally positive but for me it's a miss. Let me know if you own this as well. What are your thoughts on it?

  1. It's a shame it's so patchy because the colour is beautiful =/

  2. Ooooh I haven't been so drawn to a Colour Tattoo since Bad to the Bronze came out with the initial collection! This is beautiful -- what a great dupe for my favourite Benefit cream shadow!

  3. Looks great in the pot but oh my, a bit patchy on the eye :(
I have one that's duochrome and it's pretty sheer...not pleased.

  4. I swatched these in Boots and hated the patchiness but I figured that maybe the testers I had used were dried out. This is now at least the third review complaining about the patchiness. Such a shame because they colours are fab

  8. What a pity about the formula! Here in Europe we don't usually get the Color Tattoo collections usually, at least not in Ireland. I'm still checking every now and then if I see the Nudes popping on my usual counter, haha.

  13. Wow, that really does look quite patchy! I've read very mixed reviews about the leather range, and them being patchy. I definitely think I'll be giving them a miss!

  14. Oh damn, I love love the metallic and shimmery ones, no matte ones yet! I love the color but that patchiness is crazy!

  15. Ah, sorry so patchy! The shade really looks like a perfect neutral brown, but no excuse for a crappy formula like that! I really love the new FLOWER Beauty cream shadows- the best drugstore version I've tried :)

  16. It is a really lovely color so it is a huge shame that it is so patchy. The ones that I own Ive been very happy with (only matte one I have is Tough As Taupe and I am happy with it)
I was a bit unhappy with the fact that I could not find any of the special colors or even all of the permanent ones here in Finland (I shouldn´t be that very surprised though) :)

  20. wish the shade in the pot translated on my eyes as beautifully as it looks but it actually sheers out and applies more smoky brown so I’m not getting the intense golden chocolate I see in the jar...
