Tom Ford Stavros Lipstick: Swatches and Comparisons

Some time ago, Tom Ford released their Lips & Boys lipstick collection consisting of unique colors named after men. This collection received a lot of attention in the beauty community because of the uniqueness of the shades, specially considering it is a luxury brand and those tend to be more conservative. You can find grey, frosts, metallics, oranges, and magentas as well as regular colors such as nudes, pinks, and reds. The Lips & Boys lipsticks are smaller than regular Tom Ford lipsticks, but they also cost less ($35 vs. $55) which means it gives more people an opportunity to try the brand. I personally can't afford their full-sized lipsticks and am satisfied with the size of the Lips & Boys. Even though $35 is still a lot for a lipstick, I know that it's enough product to last me a really long time. Anyway, the color I had always been after is Stavros, a violet-toned grey with a light frosty finish. Tom Ford releases small quantities of this shade and it is currently unavailable online, but I was able to snatch this up during last year's Black Friday sales.

Tom Ford does not disappoint when it comes to texture. Stavros is creamy, comfortable, and pigmented. It is not completely opaque, so it can look different depending on: how many layers you put on, what lip liner you use (if any), and your natural skintone. I suggest using a lip liner with it because it is such an "unnatural" color and it has some sheerness. MAC Stone Lip Liner is a good option.

I know Stavros is a very difficult shade to find so I will suggest some dupes if you're looking for a unique color like this. Although, if you can track it down or wait until the next time it is released then I suggest you do it. The packaging is beautiful and it makes fora great "collector's item." Plus, I don't know of an exact dupe for it as of this moment.

I swatched Stavros next to MAC Stone so you can see that Stavros is violet-toned in comparison but it is not as lilac as Lime Crime's Chinchilla

In terms of color, the closest thing I've seen to Stavros is the ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Kapow (which I do not own, but you can see comparison swatches here).

The Wet'n'Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in Cashmere (which is an alleged dupe for the MAC Viva Glam Rihanna 2, see my post on it here) is really really similar to Stavros in terms of finish, consistency, and overall look. The main difference is that Cashmere is warmer, more brown. Cashmere is a great option for those who want the effect of Stavros but don't think that a grey shade would suit them. Cashmere costs just $1 so there's no reason not to give it a chance!

  8. This colour looks so beautiful on you! Though it's more unusual and "creative" than your conventional lip colours, you make it look so sophisticated and cool without being jarring or odd in any way. I have yet to try a Tom Ford lipstick but I've never come across a bad review!
