My previous Best Products of 2013 post was divided into categories (lips, face, blush, palettes, brushes, etc.) but I decided to only pick fourteen favorite products for 2014 this time. Honestly, if I were to make this post by categories again I would pick a lot of the same products from last year. Some of the items in this list were featured previously (it couldn’t be helped) but there are also a few very recent acquisitions.
01. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer:
Featured last year but completely worth a second mention, specially considering I acquired it towards the end of 2013. I have stopped alternating concealers and have been using this exclusively almost all of 2014. It always
02. NYX Blush in Taupe:
I got this around May of this year (thanks to Andrea) and have been having a hard time using anything else to contour with. It’s subtle, natural, and the shade is perfect for a multitude of skin tones.
03. Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer:
This was also featured in last year’s “Best Of 2013” post. I tried several new face primers this year but I still prefer this one over all of them. It’s a great one for oily and combination skin types.
04. MAC Eyeshadow in Orb:
This color is my favorite browbone eyeshadow shade. It’s the first MAC eyeshadow I’ve hit pan on. It’s great for highlighting and transitioning. I use it every time I do my eyes.
05. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade:
I purchased this in the summer and it changed my brow routine completely. The hype surrounding this is real. You can achieve both a natural and dramatic brow. Plus it stays put all day.
06. MAC 208 Brush:
After converting to the Dipbrow Pomade I was looking for the perfect brush. I wanted something really small and precise but that also had stiff bristles for creating clean sharp edges. I tried several angled brushes but found them too dense or flimsy. The 208 is exactly what I wanted. It’s expensive but worth it!
07. Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Naughty Nude:
The La Creme Lipsticks feel like luxurious lip butters. I’ve mentioned before that I have a low tolerance for glossy lip finishes but these are just right. Naughty Nude has become my go-to nighttime nude lipstick.
08. YSL Babydoll Kiss & Blush:
These made quite a splash when they were first released. The concept and packaging seemed very peculiar. There is a lot to be said about the luxurious packaging and elevated price point, but the formula itself is also very unique. Out of the two I own my favorite is 09 Rose Epicurien.
09. Milani Eyeshadow Primer:
I had been using the Too Faced Shadow Insurance during the past year but was trying to find something cheaper seeing as I go through eyeshadow primers relatively quickly. This works very well and, unlike the Shadow Insurance, it doesn’t have a tendency to separate.
10. MAC Lady Danger Lipstick:
I didn’t think I would love a red lipstick with such a strong orange undertone this much. I’m loyal to my blue-toned reds, but everytime I wear this I get a lot of compliments and I really like how it looks on me.
11. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania:
I’m a big fan of the Soft Matte Lip Creams and own a handful of shades. One of my favorites is Transylvania, a dark vampy purple. It looks almost black on the lips, I love it.
12. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Caramel Cool:
This is the most beautiful golden-brown cream eyeshadow I’ve encountered. The formula is great as well. If you can get your hands on this definitely do.
13. Lit Cosmetics Champagne Wishes Glitter:
I didn’t think I’d find a “daytime” glitter that I felt was subtle enough to wear during the daytime but I did. Champagne Wishes is gorgeous and multi-dimensional but sort of neutral and understated at the same time. Lit Cosmetics glitters are definitely a sight to behold in person. I was lucky enough to play with a bunch of them during this year’s IMATS NY.
14. The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Body Lotion*: I got this lotion sent to me for review along with most of the Wild Argan Oil collection. Not only was it my favorite product from the selection, it has become my favorite body lotion. As you can see, I’ve already used almost all of it up and have purchased a second one. It’s very lightweight and absorbs almost instantly.
What were your favorite products from 2014? Did we have any in common?
