Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Sticks

maybelline master glaze color studio blush sticks review swatches
A little while ago the newly (ish) released Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Sticks ($8.99) got their fair share of attention from beauty lovers and bloggers alike. Being a cream blush aficionado, I had to try them for myself. I'll admit I was hesitant. I haven't had too much luck with drugstore cream blushes (while I do like the ones from NYX, I find the ones from Revlon to be too slippery and greasy).

Texture and Pigmentation
These blush sticks don't feel or look like your traditional cream blushes (think NYX, Stila, Bobbi Brown, Illamasqua, etc. etc.) They're pigmented but have a certain sheerness so they end up looking more like stains on the skin. These actually remind me a lot of Tarte Cheek Stains except those are more emollient because they contain Maracuja Oil.

Application and Lasting Power
Both shades are creamy and very easy to blend. They retain a lovely satin/semi-matte finish. In my opinion they look more like a cheek stain than traditional a cream blush. The lasting power is average (around 3-4 hours).

Color Selection
While I do like the color selection, I noticed that most shades contain silver shimmer. I highly dislike silver shimmer in blush. It's nearly undetectable in these, but it still feels like random shimmer particles vs. uniform shimmery finish. I just don't think it was done well.

Bottom line: I like these and I would recommend them. Personally, I like the quality but I don't love the product. I prefer a more opaque and longer lasting traditional cream blush. These are good summer products, though. You can use them on the lips too (I have) and take them with you to reapply.

What do you think, have you tried these? Did they catch your eye at the drugstore?

  1. These seem mediocre from the sounds of your review, if/when these arrive in Aus, unless there is a shade that particularly catches my eye, I think I'll skip them. There are others from the drugstore that I need to try!

    1. They aren't bad. I just thing they're average. Like a B grade item. And a lot of times people will hype up an average item just because it's cheap. And I understand that, but I usually don't take price into account on reviews because a "meh" product will eventually go to the back of my drawers and barely get used, regardless of how much it cost. xx

  2. Coral sheen looks nice, but like you i prefer a good longer lasting cream blush x
