All About Reds: Lipstick
Hello, lovelies! I want to do a series of posts where I swatch my entire lipstick collection by color group. Seeing as we are in December, I thought the most appropriate color to start with would be red. Red lips are a classic and I truly enjoy wearing them. I’m lacking some dark vampy shades of red. If you have any that you love please recommend them. 🙂 Or even if they’re not dark reds, tell me what’s your favorite red lipstick.
Tarte LipSurgence Lip Pencil in “Lust”: I love the formula of these pencils. Similar to Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains but better. Lust is hydrating and actually replaces a lip balm for me. It never accentuates dryness or imperfections. The color can be built up to a really pretty vibrant red stain.
Revlon Lip Butter in “Candy Apple”: The formula for this shade is really good. The sheerness makes it easy to wear and appropriate for any occasion. It can be built up to a pretty opaque tomato red color.
Revlon Lip Butter in “Red Velvet”: Another super pretty lip butter with a lovely formula. It’s a great non-intimidating way to wear a darker red. Since it’s sheer it never goes too dark or vampy.
Revlon ColorBurst in “Raspberry”: I would call this a “deep” red. It’s not dark but it isn’t bright either. It’s like a safe or mature red. It’s easy to wear because it doesn’t call that much attention to the lips. The ColorBurst formula is very pigmented and moisturizing. Not very long lasting though.
Revlon ColorBurst in “True Red”: This is a vibrant, shiny in-your-face red. It’s really gorgeous on. I always get complements on my lipstick when I wear this one. The formula is not that long wearing so a few reapplications are necessary.
Revlon Super Lustrous in “Cherries in the Snow”: This is a really popular shade and with good reason. The color is beautiful! The lipstick is very pigmented and has a creme finish. It’s a cool toned red that leans towards pink.
Maybelline Color Sensational in “Very Cherry”: This one is gorgeous! Very bold and bright. The formula is very pigmented and shiny. It’s really similar to True Red except it’s a little darker. I must say, I don’t like the smell of Maybelline lipsticks. They have “the lipstick scent” that all lipsticks used to have years ago.
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Dragon Girl”: This is a blue based red that looks gorgeous on and makes your teeth look super white. The matte finish is very modern. Dragon Girl has the best matte formula I’ve used. It’s a true matte, no shine whatsoever. Yet it isn’t the least bit drying, doesn’t highlight imperfections, and lasts a long time on.
NARS Pure Matte in “Mascate”: This lipstick is amazing! Great pigmentation and gorgeous color. It’s not overly dark, but the color has a depth and richness that looks great in person and in photographs. It’s a little drier than Dragon Girl but still not drying.
Which ones are my favorites?
Cherries in the Snow, because the color is so unique. It’s pink-y/raspberry-ish and gorgeous.
Mascate, because it’s my favorite red lipstick ever. So pretty in person!
Dragon Girl, because I love mattes and I like how blue based it is.
Very Cherry, because it’s a classic shiny red. I think it would suit everyone.
