Revisiting the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette – $42
For a long time, I avoided the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette because of its negative and polarizing reviews online. In fact, Temptalia‘s Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette review is amongst the longest (and most amended) I’ve ever seen on the site. I remember feeling genuinely torn because, though I did trust these reviews, I thought the shade selection in the palettes was really unique and unlike other palettes in the market at the time. Long story short, I recently saw the Subculture Palette at Marshall’s/TJ Maxx/TK Maxx for $25 and promptly picked it up. So, is it as bad as they say? Let’s find out.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

I’ll cut to the chase. I really like this palette. I’m a huge fan of the color selection: muted neutrals, mustards, mattes, and a gorgeous chartreuse glitter. For the most part, folks had complaints about the formula, not the color selection. But honestly, I don’t believe the formula warrants all the negative press. Yes, some shades are powdery and some are a bit chalky. But all of them are workable. The formulas range between decent, average, and good. Nothing in here is bad. And I get that, at a high-end price point, you should only expect excellence, but I do not find this to be as bad as it was made out to be. My suggestion? If you’ve always been curious to try it, go ahead and check your local TJ Maxx. I’ve seen loads in there and chances are you’ll still be able to pick it up at a sizeable discount.
