I’ve always wanted to try the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation or Serum because it’s a very hyped up product. The lovely Latasha was kind enough to send me a Healthy Mix Serum during our swap. I have the shade 53 which seems to suit me very, very well. I’m around an NC30 in MAC. The Healthy Mix Serum is a lot of people’s favorite and I can see why. Here’s an in depth review of the formula and product:
A lot of warm-toned gals will be happy to hear that Bourjois’s warm shades run quite yellow. This is great because it makes color matching easy. Some brands (MAC, I’m looking at you!) love to make their warm-toned shades a bit orange. This can look unnatural if you’re predominantly yellow or not very tanned.
This is a gel foundation so the texture feels a bit different. It’s like a thickened liquid which means it’s best to use as little product as possible to avoid cakyness. I would say this has a medium coverage. It claims to be semi-matte but I find that it looks more like a satin finish on me. It’s easy to blend and easy to work with. It looks really natural in person.
Healthy Mix Serum doesn’t have SPF (yay!) which means it will photograph great. If you want SPF you can just add your own underneath. The lasting power is impressive considering it’s a moisturizing-type foundation. It seems like it would work well with a lot of skin types because it’s right in the middle (not very dewey and not completely matte). It smells floral/fruity though its scent is nowhere near as strong as Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua.
Dear Other Drugstore Brands, please take note of Bourjois’s foundation packaging. It comes with a pump and clearly states the finish and coverage on the back of the bottle. Unless you thoroughly research the product first, drugstore foundation finishes/coverage are usually a surprise. Rant aside, I can definitely see how Healthy Mix Serum is a holy grail product for some. I adore this foundation and it met all my expectations. On a more subjective note, I wouldn’t call it a favorite at this time because I live in a place with very high humidity. That means I usually go for more matte or long-wearing foundations.
