Contouring and Highlighting Using Powders
Hi, lovelies! Hope you enjoyed the funny-looking picture. Today I’m showcasing two powders I use for sculpting (meaning contouring and highlighting my face). They are from MAC’s Pro range (which you can get online at MACCosmetics.com). The one I use for contouring is the Pro Sculpting Powder in Shadester. For highlighting I use their Pro Shaping Powder in Lightsweep. What I love about MAC’s Sculpting and Shaping powder is that they come in a variety of colors suitable for different skintones. Since MAC Pro products have limited availability, I’ve included a few other options at the bottom of the post in case you’re interested in sculpting kits. I also reviewed the Pro Sculpting Creams ages ago in case you prefer cream formulas (see the review here).
I don’t generally do this whole-nine-yards full sculpting routine on a day to day basis. For everyday, I contour my cheek bones with bronzer, highlight with a shimmery highlighter, and call it a day. I tend to leave nose, temple, jaw, and neck contouring for special occasions, flash photography or when I’m feeling particularly bloated (we all have those days). When I do the full sculpting routine I like to use the Shadester Shaping Powder because it has a satin finish. It looks really natural as opposed to a regular highlighter which has a lot of shimmer. I don’t feel comfortable using a regular highlighter on my chin and forehead because I feel like it would be too much.
I took the “After” picture before adding blush so the general sculpting effect would be more noticeable. If you have oily skin you can opt out of highlighting your chin and forehead if you think that would make you look too shiny. For contouring I used the MAC 168 brush and for highlighting I used the Sedona Lace FB 05 brush. The foundation I’m wearing is Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B30 (review). I set my makeup with the Paul & Joe Pressed Powder in Medium and my lipstick is Heavenly from CoverGirl. Below are a few sculpting kits you can check out. I haven’t tried any of them myself but the popular Sleek Contour Kit is on my wishlist!
01. SLEEK CONTOUR KIT ($8.49)
02. DANIEL SANDLER SCULPT & SLIM (£24.50)
03. MAKE UP FOR EVER SCULPTING KIT ($48)
As of right now (June 13th) every single shade of the MUFE Sculpting Kit is sold out at Sephora.com! Can you believe that?! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know if you highlight/contour on a regular basis or if you leave it for special occasions like me. Also, what are your favorite products to use?
Disclaimer: I purchased the products featured in this post myself.
